Author's bio:*Required Christos Staikouras (pronounced [?xristos stai??kuras]; born 12 August 1973) is a Greek economist and politician who is currently New Democracy's Coordinator of Economic Affairs. Since the 2007 legislative election, he has been a Member of the Hellenic Parliament (MP) for Phthiotis. After the 2019 election, he was appointed Minister for Finance in the Cabinet of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Staikouras was born in Lamia, Phthiotis, and studied mechanical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. He went on to complete an MBA at Imperial College London and a PhD in banking at City University London. He worked as an analyst for the Bank of England and then Eurobank Ergasias before becoming a lecturer at the Athens University of Economics and Business in 2002. He continued in this role whilst taking on additional responsibilities, including at the University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Open University. In 2006, he was made an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business, going on leave in 2007. He was first elected as a New Democracy MP for Phthiotis at the 2007 election. He has been re-elected in all elections since, and in June 2012 was appointed as an Alternate Minister for Finance, serving until January 2015.
