Police Insp. Jim Fowler:
I'll admit mister that I've heard stories that make less sense than that. [pause] They happen to be true.

Marian Washburn:
[Susan faints] Luke! She fainted.

Susan Caldwell aka Estrellita:

Susan Caldwell aka Estrellita:
Azusa. Azusa, California.

Luke Jordan:
Azusa?

Susan Caldwell aka Estrellita:
It's kind of a made-up word. Different letters. They put them together - that's how they got the name. Everything from A to Z, USA. A-ZU-SA.

Luke Jordan:
I apologise.

Susan Caldwell aka Estrellita:
[smiling] Apology accepted. And no offense taken I'm sure.

Luke Jordan:
Thank you very much. I'm sure. [pause] Gladly.

Susan Caldwell aka Estrellita:
I think I'll take a little water first. It clears your throat you know. [gulps water for twelve seconds]

Luke Jordan:

Luke Jordan:
You know one of these days you're going to be singing that song on Broadway and I'm just going to be walking up and down the theater.

Marian Washburn:
Picketing?

Luke Jordan:
No, I just won't have enough dough to buy a ticket

Marian Washburn:
Oh, That be easy to fix, I just have you wait sit in my dressing room. Then maybe I'll have you get rid of the people that'll be waiting for my autograph

Luke Jordan:
Make way of Ms. Washburn

Marian Washburn:
Then I let you pinch so I can wake up.

Police Insp. Jim Fowler:
[to Luke] Mrs. Fowler never seems to realise that crime goes on twenty-four hours a day.

Mrs. Fowler:
When I was a little girl, that's what my mother told me about marriage, only I've found out it isn't so.

Luke Jordan:
[to Inspector Fowler] I've told you we're going to keep talking about this until we stumble on something or other that will clear it up.

Mrs. Fowler:
I've known for a long time that detective work was stumbling.
