Rollins, Wayne's Butler:
Aren't you going to eat something, sir?

Wayne Carter:
What'll I eat?

Rollins, Wayne's Butler:
Well, sir, I...

Wayne Carter:
Well, see, if you don't know, how should I know?

Rollins, Wayne's Butler:
[holding up a diamond bracelet] Er, I found this, sir.

Wayne Carter:
You find the strangest things in a bachelor's apartment.

Rollins, Wayne's Butler:
Do you suppose the lady lost anything else, sir?

Wayne Carter:
Well, if she did, she didn't lose it here.

Wayne Carter:
I'm tired of the parties and the women. The champagne as flat as the women.

Wayne Carter:
What time does your train leave?

Janet:
10:26.

Wayne Carter:
Two minutes--it can't be done.

Janet:
Oh, please, please--please make him go faster!

Wayne Carter:
[patting her hand] Now, be reasonable--

Janet:
[throwing off his hand] I knew I should have taken a taxi.

Wayne Carter:
I'd act the same way in a taxi.

Wayne Carter:
Well, suppose it isn't any of the people in our set.

Herbert 'Herb' Carraway:
You don't think it would be an ordinary man? Like a grocery clerk or a vacuum cleaner salesman?

Wayne Carter:
No, no--Agatha might commit a sin, but she'd never commit a faux pas.

Wayne Carter:
I apologize.

Helene Andrews:
For what?

Wayne Carter:
For living.

Helene Andrews:
Looks like our lucks changing, honey. They agency just phoned and told me to go to the ReTrac Investment Corporation at One Eleven Broadway. There's a stenographer's job open and it pays 35 dollars a week!

Wayne Carter:
Now, don't start in saying no again. You're afraid to take a job here because you think that I might try to make love to you. Wouldn't you stand the same chance with any other employer?

Helene Andrews:
Well, sure. A girl always runs that chance. But, here, I know what I was letting myself in for and it'd be my own fault.

Wayne Carter:
After all, this is a matter of business and I am a businessman. I suppose that surprises you?

Helene Andrews:
Well, yes, eh, it does. I thought of you as a - foolish, wealthy, Park Avenue playboy.

Wayne Carter:
Well, thanks for that boring crack. I admire your frankness. I amuse myself as I see fit and I have no one to account. But, I do take my business seriously, even though it does bore me.

Wayne Carter:
Did the agency mention any salary?

Helene Andrews:
Yes, 35 dollars a week. But, what difference does that make?

Wayne Carter:
It makes just 15 dollars difference. I'll start you off at 50.

Helene Andrews:
There, you see. That, there, is just what I said. People don't pay 50 dollars a week for ordinary stenographers and you know it.

Wayne Carter:
Will you stop trying to misunderstand me. This is not an ordinary stenographer's position. This is an executive secretary's position. Now, I feel all employees will have more dignity when the job pays more money.

Helene Andrews:
It's no fun to work for a man you have to continually hold at arms length.

Miss Clark:
Well, believe me, anytime a secretary is her own boss there's something screwy in Denmark.

Miss Clark:
I wish I was in her shoes.

Second Girl in Ladies Room:
You're not the only one. We've all made a play for him, but, he doesn't know any of us are living.

Miss Clark:
Oh, I guess she's got what it takes or somethin'.

Miss Clark:
Oh, you're crazy. Listen, you must be dumb if you can't see through the whole thing. He never acted that way toward his old secretary.

Second Girl in Ladies Room:
And the air she puts on. You'd think she was some society dame out slummin'. She's been here three weeks and acts like she owns the joint.

Wayne Carter:
I'll admit, when I first met you, I thought you were one of those girls that pretends to be innocent just to - lead a man on. It's funny, now that we know each other better, doesn't it?

Helene Andrews:
I wonder what you really think of me now?

Wayne Carter:
I think you're an extremely intelligent girl. There's nothing smug about you. You understand a man's point of view.

Wayne Carter:
You know, you're the first woman I've ever dared to be frank with. You know what I am, the way I live. Perhaps you're a bit shocked?

Helene Andrews:
Oh, no, I'm not a bit shocked, Mr. Carter. I believe in everybody doing exactly as they please.

Wayne Carter:
So do I. We understand each other perfectly.

Wayne Carter:
You know, you don't know what a relief it is not to lie and flatter and get something that's a fake, when you do get it.

Helene Andrews:
Well, you're a peculiar man. Why do you tell me all these things about yourself?

Wayne Carter:
Why not! If I were trying to make you fall in love with me, I wouldn't bare myself this way. We never can mean anything to each other, so, why not?

Mrs. Agatha Carraway:
Darling, from now on I'm spending as much time as I please with you. Aren't you pleased?

Wayne Carter:
Now, Agatha, be sensible. Herb's a friend of mine. If you don't get out of here, I'm going to carry you out bodily.

Mrs. Agatha Carraway:
Oh, Wayne! Be sweet to me! You're all I've got in the world!

Herbert 'Herb' Carraway:
I thought I could trust Agatha because she is as cold as marble. But, she's even cold with me.

Herbert 'Herb' Carraway:
Well, I guess I've taken enough of your time. You'll send that detective to see me?

Wayne Carter:
Leave it to me, Herb, and I'll fix the whole thing up. In the meantime, I'll have a talk with Agatha and try to straighten her out.

Herbert 'Herb' Carraway:
You've bucked me up immensely, Wayne, old man.

Wayne Carter:
Not at all. Not at all. You've made me feel this thing means as much to me as it does to you.

Helene Andrews:
Is there any more dictation, Mr. Carter?

Mrs. Agatha Carraway:
I believe that girl is a prude, after all.

Wayne Carter:
Will you put on your clothes and get out of here this minute!

Wayne Carter:
I never heard a girl say no, so much.
