O'Brien's physician:
You've sent many a man to death... Are you ready for your sentence?

Lord Justice O'Brien:
[nodding] What is the verdict, doctor?

O'Brien's physician:
You may live a day... or a month... but not longer... and may the Lord have mercy on your soul!

Lord Justice O'Brien:
[after Conn's wedding] I have closed the book of my life... there is no appeal.

O'Brien's servant:
You've been a hard man, James O'Brien, and there's a curse on you...

O'Brien's servant:
[referring to the D'Arcy marriage he has forced on Conn] - and you're leaving it to her.

Lord Justice O'Brien:
I did what I thought was best... pray God I was right...

John D'Arcy:
[to Hogan, turning down a knife as his dueling weapon] Cold steel freezes my hand. I can't touch it.

intertitle:
Ireland - such a little place to be so greatly loved.

Dermot McDermot:
Conn, I'm asking your father tonight for the hand of you... to go with your heart.

Connaught O'Brien:
[bitterly to D'Arcy] I was known as the daughter of Jimmy, the Hangman... but that was better than wife to D'Arcy, the Informer!

Citizen Hogan:
[Standing at the officer's mess after receiving a telegram] Sir, I must ask leave of absence to return home at once.

Hogan's commandant:
Home? To Ireland?

First Frnch officer:
[Hogan nods] To Ireland... where there's a price on your head... why run such a risk?

Citizen Hogan:
[after a long pause] I've got to kill a man.

Seond French officer:
[standing and saluting Hogan] Vive le Commandant!

British officer:
Hangman's House - where if you've an ear for it, you can gear the howling of the hanged.

Citizen Hogan:
[Referring to D'Arcy's death] Dermot McDermot, a great yellow stain has gone from the green of Ireland.

Citizen Hogan:
Aren't you the D'Arcy who just left Paris?

John D'Arcy:
[shakes his head] I've never been to Paris in my life.

Citizen Hogan:
[nods] You haven't been to Hell yet, either... have you?

British officer:
[to D'Arcy after he has shot the horse and threatened by an irate crowd] Get into the lorry before they tear you to pieces. If I wasn't on duty, I'd enjoy the sight.
