I Know That Voice

Steve Blum:
There's a bunch of us who say that we literally get fired after every job. and that sort of, mentality to live by on your day to day thing you got bills to pay um, that, that fear and um that that terror that comes with that i think sorta subsides your so grateful every day for that job when that day does come and and i didn't start doing voice over full time till I was 40 years old. Spike Spiegel from 'Cowboy Bebop' that became a huge bench-mark as right around that time uh, recorded and none of us really knew how big that thing was gonna be and it turns out that it was one of the biggest things that ever happened in my carrier and fans pointed out to e that that that was the first anime was their gateway into that whole genre.

Jason Marsden:
Uh, to be a good voice director, you uh, do research on a story and you have to know that story you wanna tell, to be able to give direction without line readings like uh "Say it like this, and uh I'm walking through the door." or I mean cause thats not that not my performance anymore its the directors performance.

Jess Harnell:
So I went to Florida where my mom is and she said, "I'm gonna take you to Disney World." And that little boy is standing there and, uh, he is wearing an Animaniacs shirt, right? So I go... I... ya know, "I like them too, it's funny that you, you have that shirt, 'cause uh, uh, I do that voice.

[In Wakko's voice]

Jess Harnell:
Right?" And he goes, "What? What do you mean?" And I go, "I do the voice of Wakko," right, and he goes, "So what? So do I". For real. and I go, "Oh, no, no, I don't mean like for fun, I mean, like I do it on the show." Right, and he goes, "Phhh, no, you don't," and I go, "Hey wait a minute." And I had this card at the time that had me and Wakko, 'cause it was my first series and I was very excited, I had me and Wakko, and I go, "Look at that! Huh?" and he goes, "Yeah, you got a picture of... of the character, so obviously, ya know, so sorry I didn't believe you." And I'm like, now I wanna kill him, right? So I go, "What will it take me to convince you?" So he says "Let me hear you do it," right? and dude, I never get nervous about anything and I'm so nervous now, 'cause this little bastard, ya know, I'm like "Oh, uh, okay," and I go...

[In Wakko's voice]

Jess Harnell:
"Boy it sure is great to be here in Disney World. Happy Thanksgiving!" Right? And he looks up and me and he goes, "I do it way better then that!"
