In the Line of Fire

In the Line of Fire

In the Line of Fire is a 1993 American political thriller film, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich and Rene Russo.[2] Written by Jeff Maguire, the film is about a disillusioned and obsessed former CIA agent who attempts to assassinate the President of the United States and the Secret Service agent who tracks him. Eastwood's character is the sole active-duty Secret Service agent remaining from the detail guarding John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, at the time of his assassination in 1963. The film also stars Dylan McDermott, Gary Cole, John Mahoney, and Fred Thompson. The film was co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment, with Columbia handling distribution. Eastwood and Petersen also originally offered the role of Leary to Robert De Niro, who turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with A Bronx Tale.[3] After In the Line of Fire, Eastwood directed every film he starred in, until 2012's Trouble with the Curve.

[Mitch has taken Frank to an elevator]

Mitch Leary:
Do you believe in the nobility of suicide?

Frank Horrigan:
No. But if you wanna blow your goddamn head off, go ahead, be my guest.

Mitch Leary:
Nicely put, except I don't want to leave this miserable world alone.

Lilly Raines:
West tower, do you have a shot?

Sniper:
Negative, too dark. Target unclear.

Leary:
It's better to die with a friend, don't you think Frank?

Horrigan:
A friend? You're a damn killer, you sick bastard.

Leary:
Don't talk to me like that! I saved your life. You owe me.

Horrigan:
I don't owe you sh*t.

Leary:
I was always honest and fair with you.

Horrigan:
Go ahead and shoot. Go ahead. [the other agents hear him on the ground floor]

Agent Chavez:
It's Frank. [to people reacting at the audio] Quiet! Quiet!

Horrigan:
Come on, dammit.

Raines:
Frank are you talking to me?

Horrigan:
[trying to keep talking to Leary] Well, what are you waiting for?

Leary:
What am I waiting for? I'm waiting for you to show me some goddamn gratitude. [aims pistol as Horrigan moves back] Without me, you'd still just be another sad-eyed, piano-playing drunk. I brought you into this game. I let you keep up with me. I made you a goddamn hero today.

Horrigan:
You didn't make me anything.

Leary:
I redeemed your pathetic, shitty life.

Horrigan:
I just did my job. You're the one with the f***ing pathetic life. Go ahead and shoot, dammit.

Raines:
They can't see inside. If they fire, you'll be hit.

Leary:
I want you to thank me first, Frank.

Horrigan:
Shut up and shoot.

Raines:
All right, Frank.

Leary:
[kneels to him] All right, Frank.

Raines:
Shooters, standby to fire. Wait for my command.

Leary:
Sleep well, my friend.

Horrigan:
Just one thing: Aim high.

Leary:
What?

Raines:
Aim high.

Horrigan:
NOW!

Raines:
Fire!

Leary:
[finally sees that Horrigan was on the radio the whole time] You bastard! [snipers shoot]
