Kung Fu: The Legend Continues

[In the hospital, Peter and his father meet again after twenty years]

Peter Caine:
I saw the tattoos on your forearms, the dragon and the tiger. Who else but a Shaolin priest could walk out of a burning building like he was taking a stroll through Central Park?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Must be... very HOT in Central Park.

Kwai Chang Caine:
[quoting] "Change is not only desirable, it is necessary."

Peter Caine:
Confucius?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Frank Zappa.

Peter Caine:
[after Kwai Chang has started teaching a new student] What more can you teach him?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Why.

Peter Caine:
All right. Forget I asked.

Kwai Chang Caine:
No. You misunderstand. In his rush to master the "how", the technique. He has brushed past, or forgotten the "why," the meaning.

[repeated line]

Lo Si:
Bloody marvelous!

[Original opening. Scene:
15 years before the present]

Narrator:
The grandson of Kwai Chang Caine walks out of the past.

Young Peter Caine:
But I want to fight.

Kwai Chang Caine:
Yes. So did your great-grandfather when he was your age.

Narrator:
He teaches his son wisdom at a Shaolin temple. An evil force destroyed that temple. Father and son each believed the other had perished.

[Jump to the present]

Narrator:
Fifteen years later, they were reunited. Now Caine faced new challenges... and his son grew up.

Peter Caine:
Look, I'm not my father. I don't do kung fu. I'm a cop. That's who I am. That's what I do.

Kwai Chang Caine:
I am Caine. I will help you.

[repeated line]

Peter Caine:
[after watching Caine do something amazing] You have got to teach me how to do that.

Peter Caine:
[addressing his fellow officers after resigning] When I was a very young boy, my father came and told me that my mother had died. I ran to the pond to look for her reflection standing over me, but it wasn't there. And I learned to swim alone. As a cop, whenever I was in danger, I'd look for a reflection, and I'd always see one or all of you standing behind me. And that gave me the courage to go on. I'll be around. But if you ever need somebody, look for my reflection.

[repeated line]

Kwai Chang Caine:
[after his son, Peter, addresses him as "Pop"] Don't ever call me that!

Kwai Chang Caine:
[recurring line] There is always another way.

[Chan and Wong appear at the Ancient's house]

Lo Si:
So you have come back. An act of great courage... or great folly.

Chan:
I'm not sure which myself.

Peter Caine:
What more can you teach him?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Why.

Peter Caine:
All right. Forget I asked.

Kwai Chang Caine:
No you misunderstand. In his haste to master the "how" the technique, he has forgotten/brushed past the "why", the meaning.

Marie:
He's good. He's good! [Watching Jake fight]

Jake Hudson:
What are you doing here?

Peter Caine:
Fighting the urge to puke.

Kwai Chang Caine:
You have a lot to learn, my son. But you do have a good right cross.

Marie:
[handcuffed, to Peter] You ever thought about fighting?

Marie:
Let's make some real money. Put my boy against Leo.

Sweet:
Leo would kill him.

Marie:
That's what brings in the heavy hitters.

Sweet:
That sure makes it real. You deliver that kid, I'll deliver the action.

Kwai Chang Caine:
Goodnight.

[after defeating Leo and knocking him unconscious]

Sweet:
Kill him! [Chanting Leo during his fight with Laura's father]

Peter Caine:
Marie, you're under arrest.

Marie:
Yeah, and I'll be out of jail before you finish the report.

Peter Caine:
Not this time.

Peter Caine:
Look, if any of these scumbags touches you, or gets near your family, I'll have the whole Metro division on them. [Assuring Jake against the street fighters]

Marie:
I hate you, you know that? Tell them where you got it.

Sweet:
Always. When you find yourself another chump, bring him around. My boy's always hungry.

Marie:
Your boy was lucky.

Sweet:
Better lucky than good.

Laura:
Oh no. Daddy? [Tries to call him again] Oh my god. Daddy?

Kwai Chang Caine:
He is... dead.

Laura:
Oh dear god no. [to Marie] You killed him!

Marie:
Me? I never touched him. I'm as sick about this as you are. I lost a yard and a half on him.

Laura:
He never would have fought if it wasn't for the money you offered.

Marie:
What he did was his choice. [Kwai turns to Marie]

Marie:
What? What's that look? You got something to say? Look, this was just a little neighborhood punch-up. Couple of guys getting it on. Who knew the bum couldn't take a punch?

Laura:
Dont you say that! He wasn't a bum! [Punches and slaps Marie]

Kwai Chang Caine:
[Stops Marie from punching Laura] You do not want to do that.

Marie:
What have we got? A tough guy? Relax, China man.

Kwai Chang Caine:
There is a word for people on other's pain and misery.

Marie:
Entrepreneur?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Coward.

Marie:
It's all just words, China man. Until the whistle blows, it's all just words.

[as they enter the street fighting arena, the doorman stops Donny and starts patting him down]

Donny Double D:
Ah, the clarity of this gesture is not lost in its lack of eloquence.

Peter Caine:
What?

Donny Double D:
Just give the man your gun.

Peter Caine:
Oh no, I promised my mother I'd never give my gun to strangers.

Donny Double D:
Petey, Petey, a breach of weapons-related etiquette could have the most alarming consequences. Besides, you ain't gettin' in 'til you lose the heat!

Kwai Chang Caine:
[laughs at Peter's abandonment concern] Your lessons will never be finished, my son. We will always have something to teach each other, my son.

Young Peter Caine:
I don't know what I would do if I lost you as well as mom.

Kwai Chang Caine:
When a man walks into the shade, his shadow banishes. I promise, I will always be in the light for you.

Rykker:
[facing Peter and looking at armed bad guys behind him, off-camera] Would you move a little bit to the right, please?

Kwai Chang Caine:
Do not control, be in control.

Peter Caine:
You have got to teach me how to do that, pop!

Maxwell Forrester:
Rommel? You beautiful son of a gun, I read your book!

Peter Caine:
I need more than that: I need a trick!

Kwai Chang Caine:
I am all out of tricks tonight. You will find your own path, just look ahead.
