Sonny Rogers:
[waking up] Oh, Mary Lou, what's eating you?

Mary Lou Rogers:
[singing] Good morning to you! Happy birthday to you!

Sonny Rogers:
Gee, so it is! Hooray!

Mary Lou Rogers:
Hooray!

Mrs. Rogers:
Hurry, Sonny, your dad has a surprise for you.

Sonny Rogers:
Did he get me that motorcycle? I hope he did, but I bet he got me that durn ole pup.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Are you really scared of dogs, Sonny?

Sonny Rogers:
No, I'm not scared of them, but one of them bit me when I was little, and I just can't stand to touch them.

Mrs. Rogers:
Sonny was just asking about that motorcycle.

Mr. Rogers:
It was seventy-five dollars. For a secondhand motorcycle? You know it's ridiculous.

Mrs. Rogers:
No more ridiculous than seventy-five dollars for an unborn pup.

Mr. Rogers:
But this won't be an ordinary dog! His father is -

Mrs. Rogers:
Yes, I know, and his mother is a direct descendant of champions.

Mrs. Rogers:
Mary Lou, what are you doing? You'll get soaked!

Mary Lou Rogers:
[playing in the rain] I won't, Mother, just my clothes!

Mrs. Rogers:
Those children... and that includes you.

Mr. Rogers:

Mrs. Rogers:
Ever since you heard of those Vanderpool pups, our dinner table's been a regular battlefield.

Mr. Rogers:
And it's going to stop. I'm not going to tolerate any more of Sonny's nonsense. Wait till you see Queenie, and you'll know why I'm so crazy to have - I mean, for Sonny to have one of her pups.

Sonny Rogers:
It'll only get underfoot and chew things up!

Mr. Rogers:
But not for long! A spaniel's so smart, he can be trained in no time. Why, before he's a year old, I'll be able to take him on hunting trips. That is, uh, if you're willing to spare him, son.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Why don't you just buy him for yourself, Daddy? You're the one that wants him.

Phyllis:
What've you got in the box, Harry?

Harry Vanderpool:
A birthday present for Sonny.

Phyllis:
You know he doesn't like dogs.

Harry Vanderpool:
That's why I brought him. You know, I hate to see you waste your time with a guy who's afraid of mutts.

Phyllis:
He's not afraid!

Harry Vanderpool:
Oh, yeah? We'll see.

Mr. Rogers:
You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Afraid of a dog!

Sonny Rogers:
Honest, I'm not, Dad. You go ahead and buy that pup for yourself. I don't mind having a dog around the house. I just don't want one that would come near me.

Mr. Rogers:
That's cowardice. You're going to take that pup I'm buying for you, understand?

Sonny Rogers:
Yes, sir.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Hello, Sonny, what have you got there?

Sonny Rogers:
Phyllis, do you know anything about dogs?

Phyllis:
Sonny Rogers, how did you ever happen to bring home a thing like that?

Mary Lou Rogers:
Did somebody throw it away, Sonny?

Sonny Rogers:
Oh, shut up, both of you.

Phyllis:
But Sonny, I thought you hated dogs.

Sonny Rogers:
Can't you see the poor dog's sick? We've gotta take care of it, and you've gotta help.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Are you gonna let Dad and Mother see her?

Sonny Rogers:
We better give her a bath first.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Oh, goody, goody, goody! We're gonna give the dog a bath!

Mr. Rogers:
Well, I'm glad you've come to your senses.

Sonny Rogers:
Yeah, and now I'm gonna show you my dog!

Mr. Rogers:
Your dog?

Mary Lou Rogers:
And what a dog!

Mr. Rogers:
So, that's your dog, is it?

Sonny Rogers:
Sure, she's a hunting dog, Dad. That's the kind you like, isn't it?

Mr. Rogers:
Hunting dog? She's a mongrel. You'd better take her to the pound.

Sonny Rogers:
No, Dad, you can't do that.

Mr. Rogers:
I know more about dogs than you do.

Sonny Rogers:
But Dad, I think she's gonna have puppies.

Mr. Rogers:
Yes, and we'll have to drown them.

Mary Lou Rogers:
No, I want one. Hooray, I'm gonna have a puppy!

Mr. Rogers:
And what would Harry Vanderpool think of you, refusing a thoroughbreed dog for a frightful-looking thing like that. You'd better take her to the pound, Sonny.

Mrs. Rogers:
They'll put her down without any pain.

Sonny Rogers:
You haven't any feelings, you haven't any heart! You wanted me to have a dog, didn't you?

Harry Vanderpool:
I'm afraid I have some bad news, Mr. Rogers. They'll be no pup for you. Queenie ran away.

Mr. Rogers:
What?

Harry Vanderpool:
She jumped out of our trainer's car.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Sonny found a dog under the bridge. She's gonna have pups.

Harry Vanderpool:
Let me see her, I'll bet it's Queenie! What's the matter?

Mr. Rogers:
Sonny took her out to be destroyed.

Harry Vanderpool:
What? Destroyed?

Mary Lou Rogers:
Yes, Daddy made him take her to the pound.

Sonny Rogers:
Nobody'll find you here, Beauty. Mary Lou, sneak in the house and see if you can get me some food for the dog.

Mary Lou Rogers:
Okay.

Harry Vanderpool:
Sonny, have you got my dog?

Sonny Rogers:
Your dog?

Harry Vanderpool:
Yes, that's her. I'll teach you to run away!

Sonny Rogers:
Hey, don't you touch that dog!

Harry Vanderpool:
Oh, no? She's mine, isn't she?

Come on, do I get that dog?

Mr. Rogers:
