Myth Busters, a detective series, will try to validate urban myths using every tool at our disposal. The series will be hosted by two myth busters. One is a science/technology Boffin, the other a trained Skeptic. They will investigate the claims of "True Believers". Our investigators will exmaine three myths in each hour. At the end of each show they will reveal which, if any, has a basis in solid fact. Coming up; flying the lawn-chair balloon, can one poppy seed bagel put you over the limit on a drug test, being covered in gold paint... LARRY'S LAWN-CHAIR BALLOON Larry Walters attached something like 45 weather balloons to this lawn chair. He took up beer and beef jerky and he was an unemployed truck driver. One of his tethers broke and he shot straight up into the air and apparently went up to about 16,0000 feet. He flew for something like 14 hours, was spotted by TWA and Delta air pilots and eventually closed LAX airport. POPPY-SEED BAGEL The myth is that eating a couple of poppy seed bagels in the morning could cause you to test positive for opiate use on a preemployment drug screen. One woman in Florida who tested falsely positive from poppy seed bagels actually sued. GOLDFINGER You may remember the1964 James Bond Classic called Goldfinger. After betraying her boss, secretary Jill Masterson is murdered by having her skin painted entirely gold.
