Bill Williamson:

John Marston:

John Marston:
Well... [he draws his gun but is shot down]

Bill Williamson:

Bonnie MacFarlane:
Are you a religious man?

John Marston:
Not in any real sense. Sometimes I tell myself that things happen for a reason. Like what brought me here was fate come-a-callin. But nobody made my path but me.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
We all need to look for answers somewhere. Some in big ol' books, and others in big bottles of whiskey.

John Marston:
Believing in some kinda divine purpose ain't gonna bring me my wife and kid back. Past is who we are Miss MacFarlane. And there ain't no changing that. Faith is a luxury I can't afford.

Jake:
Ain't taken nobody up to the Fort in a long time. Strange place for a decent fella to visit, if you don't mind me sayin'.

John Marston:
Who said I was a decent fella?

Colonel Agustin Allende:
My people have lived and worked here for a hundred years. We brought civilization, and these people, these f***ing monkeys, despise us. We brought them God, and they turned their back on him. John Marston:

Colonel Agustin Allende:

John Marston:
So I finally met your great leader. He certainly lives up to his reputation.

Captain Vicente De Santa:
What would you know about leadership?

John Marston:
Only that most can't handle power.

Captain Vicente De Santa:
It is easy to criticize power, when you have never had it yourself. Maybe it is because you have never been in the presence of a strong man before. I have seen the pictures of your country in the newspapers. Men preening and decorating themselves like women. Vanity is the legacy the British left behind.

John Marston:
Look, I don't know the fella. Just sayin'... if that's how he treats his own men?

Captain Vicente De Santa:
Colonel Allende controls any situation he is in because he knows the situation can never be allowed to control him. It is what a leader must do. And, in case you had not noticed, we are fighting a war. We're all under a lot of pressure.

John Marston:
Pressure to find young girls?

Captain Vicente De Santa:
The Colonel needs recreation like anybody else. He does not have time to court women. He's waging a war on ignorance, and is impatient for victory. He is trying to inspire wisdom in those more stupid than himself.

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
Excuse me, you Edgar Ross?

Edgar Ross:
Do I know you?

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
Forgive me for startling you sir, I have a message for you. My name is Jack Marston... You knew my father.

Edgar Ross:
[laughs] I see... I remember your father.

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
I've come for you Ross.

Edgar Ross:
And you boy, have sure as sh*t found me.

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
You killed my father.

Edgar Ross:
Your father killed himself with the life he lead.

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:

Edgar Ross:

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
You sent him to do your dirty work then shot him like a dog.

Edgar Ross:
And I'll shoot you like one too you little piece of trash! Now get out of here before I kill you as well!

John 'Jack' Marston Jr.:
I ain't going nowhere old man! [they draw, and Jack shoots Ross]

Mexican Woman:
[whilst having sex with Reyes] Vive la Mexico!

Drew MacFarlane:
So... my daughter informs me that you're here on some secret mission to remove some undesirables from the county.

John Marston:
Something like that. I'm grateful for your hospitality, sir.

Drew MacFarlane:
Ah ya know we've lived here for 30 years now. Came here from the East. The land had never been settled. For 10 years we fought the Indians. Tough men. Then we had outlaws and we had drought, and we had smallpox, terrible winters, cholera. I've buried more of my children than I've raised.

John Marston:
Sorry to hear that sir.

Drew MacFarlane:
I've seen strong men wither and die under that unforgiving sun. That whole herds of cattle take sick and die. But I've never once doubted my life here.

John Marston:
No sir.

Drew MacFarlane:
When I hear about this so-called Federal Government, sending out agents to covertly murder and control people, then I start to worry. I mean, alright, Williamson is a menace and men like him are the plague, but isn't a government agent a worse menace? In all that symbolizes, I mean.

John Marston:
You may be right sir.

John Marston:
You sure have some interesting theories on what the government's doin', sir.

Drew MacFarlane:
They ain't theories, Mr. Marston. I saw the telegram the Marshal got from Blackwater. It ain't exactly a state secret who sent you.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
Well, is he wrong? I saw those men from the train.

John Marston:
The government can go to hell, if you ask me. Those sons-a-b*tches'd steal a coin off a dead man's eye.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
Mr Marston!

Drew MacFarlane:
He's right. Now, I don't know much about politics...

Bonnie MacFarlane:
Please Pa, can we just enjoy the ride?

Drew MacFarlane:

John Marston:

They're scattered all over the valley and beyond. The weather is coming in real fast.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
So what do you suggest, Amos, we leave the herd out there to be scattered by the storm and ourselves left here to die without a livelihood?

Amos:
No miss, if the men get caught out in that storm, they're gonna die.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
And if we lose the herd, we'll all die, you stupid man.

Marshal Leigh Johnson:
What are you doing here Mr. Marston, apart from frightening my deputies?

John Marston:
I'm here to capture or kill Bill Williamson.

Marshal Leigh Johnson:
[laughs] Okay!

John Marston:
Can you help me?

Marshal Leigh Johnson:
He's outside my jurisdiction, he's in the next county. Of course, Bill Williamson and his boys have tended to keep themselves away from my town.

John Marston:
So you're happy to have him out there?

Marshal Leigh Johnson:
Well, I ain't happy, but I also ain't suicidal. My job is to keep this town safe, not clean up all of these 3 counties. It's hard enough around here.

John Marston:
Ya know... I hear you speak, and suddenly I'm reminded of how some of the people I respected most in my life had a problem with authority. What's wrong with you?

Marshal Leigh Johnson:
Well, I'm sure you and your fine friends have enjoyed spending your time running around pursuing noble causes. My cause is to keep this town from turning into a living hell for the folks who live here. Whole world has problems, mister, and I'm here, doing what I can.

John Marston:
Hello, old friend. It's been a long time.

Javier Escuella:
Hello, brother. It's good to see you. I heard you was coming. You took your time, no? Come on, you're not going to shoot your own brother, are you? We was family.

John Marston:
Yeah, we were, then you and Dutch went crazy, and family didn't mean so much.

Javier Escuella:
So now you do the government's work?

John Marston:
And what do you do? You just work for a different government.

Javier Escuella:
Come on, brother, I think we should go our separate ways, huh?

John Marston:
What you and Dutch did was wrong. And the way you left me was wrong. Now, I ain't the judge, but as it turns out, it's you or me, the way I see it, it might as well be you.

Javier Escuella:
We thought you was dead, brother. I promise. I'm telling the truth. Besides, I can give you Bill. And Dutch... Dutch is in Colombia. I can take you straight to him.

John Marston:
You left me to die, to save your own skin and now you expect me to care about you?

Javier Escuella:
You got it all wrong, brother. I've always loved you, even now. [he pushes a crate on him and leaps out a window] Go back to your farm, John!

John Marston:
You never did tell me why you were never married. Aside from the snobbery, that is.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
You sure ask a lot.

John Marston:
I'm just surprised, that's all. You must've been quite a catch.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
The fact that you're talking in the past says it all.

John Marston:
No... that's not what I meant. You must've had some suitors, that's all I'm sayin'.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
Some, I suppose... here and there. A ranch in the middle of Hennigan's Stead ain't really the place to find a husband. Amos, he's a little... well, you know, countrified.

John Marston:
Where'd you get your airs and graces, Miss MacFarlane?

Bonnie MacFarlane:
From a couple of cheap governesses Pa hired to save us from being savages. I'd like to talk about more than just cattle and chickens sometimes, that's all. And after my brother left, it was up to me to become the man of the ranch. He'd never admit it but my Pa's a lot frailer than he looks.

John Marston:
You're worth two of any man I know, Miss.

Bonnie MacFarlane:
I'll try to take that as a compliment.

The Strange Man:
Welcome John. John Marston.

John Marston:
Do I know you?

The Strange Man:
I hope so. I seem to know you.

John Marston:
I'm pretty good at remembering faces.

The Strange Man:
Are you? Do you remember Heidi McCourt's face?

John Marston:
Who?

The Strange Man:
She was a girl Dutch van der Linde shot in the head on that raid on the ferry a few years back. Same one you got shot on. Pretty girl... until her eye was hanging out by a tendon, and her brain was plastered over a wall.

John Marston:
Not really.

The Strange Man:
Then why would you remember me, friend? You've forgotten far more important people than me.

The Strange Man:
Ain't this a beautiful spot?

John Marston:
Sure. What are you doing here?

The Strange Man:
My accounts. I'm an accountant.

John Marston:
Is that so?

The Strange Man:

John Marston:

The Strange Man:
You know, its the darndest thing, but I can't remember.

John Marston:

The Strange Man:

John Marston:

The Strange Man:

Abraham Reyes:
I knew I had heard the name Javier Escuella before. He is from this province. They tell me he was once a notorious bounty hunter, and also one of the early revolutionaries.

John Marston:
That sounds about right.

Abraham Reyes:
All before my rebellious urges took hold, of course. I think I was still travelling in Europe at the time. I was living in Madrid with the ambassador's wife.

John Marston:
That sounds about right, as well. Escuella was always a torn man. A cynic who desperately wanted to be a romantic.

Abraham Reyes:
Whereas you, John, are a romantic who wants to be a cynic.

John Marston:
Javier would die fightin' for what he believed in. He had a lot of passion, but no love. Although he really admired Dutch, of course, but then we all did.

Abraham Reyes:
He was the leader of your little group of fortune hunters, verdad?

John Marston:
When Dutch started fallin' apart, it hit Javier harder than any of us. He went crazy. It was like the one thing he'd ever believed in turned out to be a fraud.

Abraham Reyes:
You talk about him fondly.

John Marston:
It ain't exactly fondness. We was close once. But he never cared for me or anybody else, not any of his so-called brothers. He left me to die, when he had the chance to save me.

Abraham Reyes:
And he didn't teach you any Spanish during all the time you were together?

John Marston:
I remember cabr?n being used a lot.

Abraham Reyes:
Well now you get to pay that cabr?n a surprise visit.

John Marston:
I ain't here for revenge. I just need him and Williamson.

Abraham Reyes:
Have you ever known power, John?

John Marston:
I'm a semi-literate farmer and hired killer. I ain't in the power game.

Abraham Reyes:
Then you will never have the knowledge that any woman will bear your child? That, for her, it will be an honor?

John Marston:
I've known about enough bastards without making too many more of my own.

Abraham Reyes:
A man like me cannot be with just one woman. It would be an injustice to the people I have devoted my life to serving.

John Marston:

Irish:
I hear some miners been blabbin' about a machine gun they found. Apparently, they got it stashed up at Gaptooth Breach.

John Marston:
What do miners want with a machine gun?

Irish:
Shoot it at somebody, I suppose. Or sell it. I don't know, I never been down a mine in all me life.

John Marston:
Sounds real fishy to me, Irish. I've just about had it with you and your games. You and West Dickens are so crooked, you could swallow nails and spit out corkscrews.

Irish:
Maybe if you was more cordial with folks, they'd be better inclined to help you.

John Marston:
I saved your life and you repay me by lyin', and nearly getting me killed.

Irish:
Not far now, Johnny. We should go around the side of Gaptooth so the miners don't see us coming.

John Marston:
I still don't know what miners would want with a machine gun.

Irish:
Miners are always flighty bastards. Spend too long without daylight and doxies and it starts playin' with your mind.

John Marston:
