Shotgun Slade:
[the door opens and Slade is surprised to see a familiar face] Well, Monica!

Monica Bristol:
Hello, Slade. Small world isn't it?

Shotgun Slade:
Yeah. I didn't know you were in Deadwood.

Monica Bristol:
Of course you didn't. Let's see, the last time we saw each other was in Cheyenne, wasn't it? Or was it Denver? You get around so much.

Jenny Dupree:
Be careful, Mr. Slade. Cal can be a very dangerous man.

Shotgun Slade:
I don't know what's worse. A dangerous man or a dangerous woman.

Shotgun Slade:
You know perfectly well why Jenny Dupree sent for me.

Monica Bristol:
How could I miss? She's written it in lipstick all over the front of your shirt.

Shotgun Slade:
She was upset, crying. I had to comfort her.

Monica Bristol:
Oh, sure. I have to hand it to you, Slade, you certainly give your clients their money's worth.

Susan Bennett:
Hello, Mr. Slade.

Shotgun Slade:
Well, Susan! What a pleasant surprise.

Susan Bennett:
Ma found out about Dr. Brighton. She says she's given up picking out men for me. I can pick some out for myself now, Mr. Slade.

Shotgun Slade:
Well, that's the nicest news I've heard all day.

Shotgun Slade:
Nothing bothers me more than to have someone interfere in my business, especially when a gunslinger relieves me of my prisoner.

Sheriff:
Slade, I never had much truck with detectives, but from what I heard about you I'm a little surprised that you'd let a woman lay you out cold.

Shotgun Slade:
[Chuckling] Yeah, well, so am I, Sheriff.

Sheriff:
A man in a hurry with lots of money can cover a lot of ground.

Eli Gates:
A great talent. Great future. That's what they said. Then I fell in love. Then I fell in love, but not with a woman. With a bottle.

Bob Batson:
He'll keep on following you. Sooner or later he's gonna pin you down. You've got to kill him!

Hack Lawrence:
Well, from what I've heard about that Slade, that might not be so easy.

Shotgun Slade:
This was my first visit to Grover's Bend, and if things didn't turn out right it might be my last. I was keeping an appointment with a gunslinger who hated me. And I guess he had reason to. You seldom make close friends by sending people to jail. And Mort Phillips had just finished serving five years, compliments of yours truly.

Mort Phillips:
Watching Billy shoot I get the notion that the ghost of my own hand had gone into him. Working the fingers. Snapping up the wrist.

Mort Phillips:
Waco tells me that Slade's gone all over town asking questions.

Billy Rigg:
Maybe it's time he got something besides answers.

Marshal:
Y'know, I've heard about you, Slade. You don't saddle up unless there's plenty of dinero on the line.

Shotgun Slade:
No man stays hidden long if you know how to look for him.

Shotgun Slade:
Cheese is the best bait for hungry rats. But if you want to catch a greedy man, you use money.

Jock, Cody Foreman:
What did you say your name was?

Shotgun Slade:
Slade.

Jock, Cody Foreman:
Is that all of it, just Slade?

Shotgun Slade:
It gets me there and back.

Lilly Cody:
[after discovering Slade had been looking through her window] Just curious enough to peek in my window, huh?

Shotgun Slade:
Well, unfortunately, Miss Lily, peeking in windows sometimes is part of my job.

Lilly Cody:
And I'll bet you enjoy it, too.

Shotgun Slade:
Matter of fact, I do.

Marshal:
[Discussing Miss Lily] I feel sorry for that girl. She's had more trouble than a bobtail horse in fly time.

Shotgun Slade:
Company officials knew it was the old crime of high grading: stealing high-grade ore out of somebody else's mine.

Detective Ward:
[Playing poker in the saloon] How about another hand?

Bonanza Jake:
Oh, not today, son. I've gotta get back to my diggins. I spend too much time foolin' around in civilization as it is. It's mighty pleasant, but it's a'warpin' of the mind.

Shotgun Slade:
They're on to you, Ward.

Detective Ward:
How do you know?

Shotgun Slade:
Hartley here has hired me to kill ya. You better disappear and I'll try to convince him I dropped your body down a mine shaft.

Shotgun Slade:
I'm probably wrong, Marshal. I just can't explain it, but I've got a hunch that girl didn't mean a word she said.

Marshal Berry:
Well, I've never been one to tromp on a hunch.

Shotgun Slade:
Well, we'll stow it for now, Marshal. I had a hunch the South was gonna win the war once.

Pike Stirling:
[to his son Lenny] I brung ya into the world, I should'a took you out of it!

Shotgun Slade:
[while ejecting the Chinese man from the casino] Out ya go, Dragon Lady!

Bernard Rejon:
[Stunned after Slade wheeled and cuffed him in the head with an elbow] Such violence was not necessary! I did not mean you any harm.

Shotgun Slade:
Any man pointing a gun at my back doesn't mean me any good, mister.

Shotgun Slade:
[to Miss Baxter] What kind of a sucker do you think I am, anyway? Don't you think that I know as soon as you have possession of the jewels that Ben here would give me a bad case of lead poisoning?

Shotgun Slade:
Greed is a strange thing, Sheriff. It feeds on itself, then destroys itself.

Trigg Bronson:
[Discussing the beautiful showgirl Giselle, who was flirting with Slade] There's one thing you oughtta know.

Shotgun Slade:
Oh, what's that?

Trigg Bronson:
She's been spoke for. I've already staked my claim.

Shotgun Slade:
Well, that's just too bad, Mr. Bronson.

Trigg Bronson:
What do you mean?

Shotgun Slade:
I come from a long line of claim jumpers.

Shotgun Slade:
Y'see, Mr. Quinn, the way I look at it, girls will be girls. And y'know, I'm sure glad of it, too. Real glad.

Shotgun Slade:
I figured he'd sent for me to spin a yarn about the good ol' days. Maybe he can tell me what was so good about them. He never had two dimes to rub together. The fun was mighty scarce. Come to think of it, things haven't changed much for me.

Lita:
[Warning Slade] Someone's out to get you, and he won't stop till you eat dirt.

Lita:
My friend Slade, spelled trouble. It was quiet around here till you blew into town.

Shotgun Slade:
You haven't seen anything yet, Lita.

Shotgun Slade:
Well, the lady in distress. Yesterday it was an accident. What's it going to be today?

Cora Davis:
[pointing a Derringer at Slade] Curtains, unless you use your head.

Shotgun Slade:
[Opening Narration] Sheriff Peter Matt Miller was the last of a dying breed - Town Tamers who carried the law in their holsters. When he wired asking for help, I knew it had to be big if he couldn't handle it.

Samuel Matson, Banker:
But $12,000 isn't exactly...

Shotgun Slade:
I know, isn't exactly hay. And neither is my fee, Mr. Matson. I want $500 in advance, and $500 when the job is done.

Sheriff Walters:
[Sniffing the bills] What is it?

Shotgun Slade:
Onions. Small vegetable with a big smell.

Shotgun Slade:
[Storming into the office] Marshal?

Sheriff Fred Hadley:
You seem to be in a mighty big hurry, mister.

Shotgun Slade:
My name's Slade, sir. Maybe you've heard of me?

Sheriff Fred Hadley:
You wouldn't be Shotgun Slade from Denver?

Shotgun Slade:
That's right.

Shotgun Slade:
Suddenly I felt as defenseless as a fish in a barrel.

Shotgun Slade:
Every detective's bound to run into a case that just can't be solved.

Shotgun Slade:
Looks like I got a real sucker for a client this time: me.
