Are you one of those people who think that if you teach an Indian the rules of cricket he'll become an English gentleman?

Guy Perron:
Hardly sir. I know quite a few English gentlemen who play cricket brilliantly but are absolute shits.

Dimitri Bronowsky:
[looks at Perron's shoulder-tabs] Tell me what this stands for - AEC?

Capt. Ronald Merrick:
[quickly] Army Education Corps.

Dimitri Bronowsky:
I see. Tell me - how does one educate an army?

Guy Perron:
One tries to see to it that it doesn't get bored.

Mr. Maybrick:
But Captain Coley thinks...

Barbie Batchelor:
[snaps, acidly] Captain Coley doesn't think at all; that's God's blessing on him.

Capt. Ronald Merrick:
One isn't supposed to talk about that sort of thing. One isn't supposed to talk about anything much.

Sarah Layton:
I know. It's how we hide our prejudices and go on living with them.

Capt. Ronald Merrick:
In point of fact, Corporal Dixon, I've been finding out quite a bit about you.

'Sophie' Dixon:
There's some fearful gossip, sir. You shouldn't pay attention.

Capt. Ronald Merrick:
I've been hearing about your active service record in the Arakan. According to my informant, you were the one who kept on joking - risking your life to bring in the wounded under fire. They should have given Sophie Dixon the MM, that's what I've been told.

'Sophie' Dixon:
Oh, that would never do, sir. And where would they pin it, cheeky things.

Capt. Ronald Merrick:
So what's the truth, Dixon? Are you a hero, or a bloody pansy?

'Sophie' Dixon:
I don't think, Captain Merrick, that's the kind of question we ought to ask ourselves, do you?
