Valerie Boyd:
I mean, like, jumping right out of your skin, and being absolutely somebody else. Not just pretending, but actually *being* somebody else.

Marian Gilbert:
Golly Moses!

[Describing his encounter with "Gil" and "Val", during an intimate moment with Mrs. Dunnworthy]

Henry Orient:
...And then two small bladders came out of their mouths. And just when she was beginning to hum, too.

[Gil has smuggled food into her room for Val, who has runaway from home]

Marian Gilbert:
If you'd let me tell Mom, I could get some cranberry sauce too.

Valerie Boyd:
No, no matter how nice they are, they all belong to the same club, or union, or something. And the minute it's about a daughter, Boom! Straight to the telephone.

[defending her friendship with Val]

Marian Gilbert:
Valerie Boyd's just about the most linquent girl I've ever met in my whole life!

Sidney:
Don't you understand what I'm trying to tell you, Henry? You're in trouble. If I keep telling them you're at the dentist's, they're going to want to count your teeth.

[Val induces a fantasy about Gil's divorced parents]

Valerie Boyd:
Think your Dad will ever come back?

Marian Gilbert:
Why can he? He's married and has a couple of kids.

Valerie Boyd:
But how do you know he's happy?

Marian Gilbert:
He's crazy about her.

Valerie Boyd:
I know, but just suppose he suddenly realized his second marriage was a tragic mistake. His eyes are opened at last, and he knows now that your mother is the only woman he's ever loved in his whole life.

Marian Gilbert:
I don't think there's much chance of that.

Valerie Boyd:
So there's nothing to do but tell her the truth... the scond wife I mean. He's simply got to go back to the only woman he's loved in his whole life. Good-bye, second wife.

Marian Gilbert:
You think that's really possible?

Valerie Boyd:
Well, he's got no other choice. He can't go living a lie, can he? He's got to go back to his one true love.

Marian Gilbert:
Maybe, during Christmas.

Valerie Boyd:
Chirstmas Eve maybe

Marian Gilbert:
About 6:00.

Valerie Boyd:
You and your mother are all alone trimming the tree, when suddenly the doorbell rings.

Marian Gilbert:
I'd be the one to go and answer it.

Valerie Boyd:
But you'd be wondering 'who on earth it could be,' because you weren't expectign anyone. He'd open the door, and he'd be standig there simply loaded with presents. And before you could say anything, he'd say, 'Shhhh,' because he wants to surprise your mother. At first, he'd give you a big hugh, just as tight as he could.

Marian Gilbert:
And them Mom would come down wondering who it was, beause she'd be wondering why she didn't hear anybody say anything.

Valerie Boyd:
And for a long time, they'd just stand there and stare at each other not saying anything.

Marian Gilbert:
They wouldn't have to.

Valerie Boyd:
And then he'd take her in his arms, and rain kisses on her upturned face, [sighing] and they'd just... love each other to death right there at the front door.

Valerie Boyd:
You know, I don't know whether I ought to or not, but I feel awfully happy... in a sort of sad way.

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
I know, I went through the same thing with John Barrymore.

Marian Gilbert:
Who?

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
What did you say?

Marian Gilbert:
This guy you went through it with.

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
You mean you've never heard of John Barrymore?

Marian Gilbert:
Nope

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
You've never even heard his name?

Marian Gilbert:
Nope

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
Excuse me, it's later than I think.

Stella Dunnworthy:
This is exactly the sort of thing George would think of, little girl detectives that no one would suspect.

[at a Henry Orient concert]

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
[to Mrs. Gilbert] If this is music, what's that stuff Cole Porter writes?

Marian Gilbert:
You shaved your legs!

Valerie Boyd:
You're the biggest blabber mouth.

Marian Gilbert:
You didn't tell me!

Valerie Boyd:
I don't have to tell you everything!

Erica 'Boothy' Booth:
A little louder girls, some people in the balcony can't hear you.
