There's No Time for Love, Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown:
[Charlie Brown and Sally walk to school] You're really something, do you know that? I've never seen anyone who was so uptight about school. Why don't you just relax?

Sally:
[next scene; Sally stands on her chair in the classroom and has a nervous look on her face] Who can relax?

Peppermint Patty:
A science project? Oh, good grief, I hate science projects! I can never think of anything different!

Franklin:
I'm going to do mine on the various kinds of metals in the earth and how each has affected the progress of mankind.

Peppermint Patty:
Maybe I'll do one on stomachaches.

Linus:
Problem number 5: "A man has a daughter and a son. The son is 3 years older than the daughter. In 1 year, the man will be 6 times as old as the daughter is now; and in 10 years, he'll be 14 years older than the combined ages of his children. What is the man's present age?"

Lucy:
I'm sorry. We are unable to complete your call. Please check the number and dial again.

Linus:
The new math is too much for me!

Lucy:
You'll get on to it. It just takes time.

Linus:
Not me. I'll never get on to it! How can you do new math problems with an old math mind?

Sally:
[exasperated] Who was the father of Henry IV? I could not possibly care less! [realizes her comment and turns to the audience] Oops! I'm sorry, I apologize. [turns to the teacher] That was just a gut reaction.

Linus:
What's wrong, Charlie Brown?

Charlie Brown:
I just got terrible news. The teacher says we're going on a field trip to an art museum; and I have to get an A on my report or I'll fail the whole course. Why do we have to have all this pressure about grades, Linus?

Linus:
Well, I think that the purpose of going to school is to get good grades so then you can go on to high school; and the purpose is to study hard so you can get good grades so you can go to college; and the purpose of going to college is so you can get good grades so you can go on to graduate school; and the purpose of that is to work hard and get good grades so we can get a job and be successful so that we can get married and have kids so we can send them to grammar school to get good grades so they can go to high school to get good grades so they can go to college and work hard...

Charlie Brown:
Good grief!

Sally:
I don't know why we have to go on field trips. Why can't we stay in school? Why should we bother the outside world? I think field trips were invented by school custodians to get us out of there so they can clean it! Do you know what going on a field trip means? It means we ride about 10,000 miles on a bus and we all get sick!

Sally:
[Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, Marcie and Sally see a huge pile of tomato cans on display] Look at the pieces of sculpture.

Marcie:
It looks like a stack of tomato cans in a supermarket.

Peppermint Patty:
What do you mean supermarket? That's pop art! What's the matter with you, Marcie? Don't you know pop art when you see it?

Marcie:
You're in love with Chuck, aren't you, sir?

Peppermint Patty:
Me? Me in love with Chuck? How could anybody ever be in love with boring, dull, wishy-washy old Chuck?

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
Well, I don't know what I can do for Charlie Brown, but I sure know what you can do for me.

Marcie:
What's that?

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
[blows her away from her yells] Stop calling me 'sir'!

[last lines, after Charlie Brown got his first 'A' on his report]

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
Chuck, I want to apologize for saying that you're stupid and wishy-washy and everything. It's not easy for a girl to talk like this to a boy, you know.

Charlie Brown:
I know. But I always used to think how nice it would be if that little red-haired girl would just come up to me and...

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
[blows him away with her yells] I can't stand you, Chuck!

Marcie:
[comes by] Well, sir, you said the wrong thing again, didn't you?

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
Kid, I want to ask you something: how come you're always calling me 'sir' when I keep asking you not to? Don't you realize how annoying that can be?

Marcie:
No, ma'am.

[Peppermint Patty winces from the word]

[first lines]

Sally:
[wakes up] My alarm clock didn't go off!

[she takes her alarm clock and shakes it and goes to the kitchen to Charlie Brown]

Sally:
Maybe I wound it too tight. Sometimes if you wind an alarm clock too tight, it won't go off.

Charlie Brown:
We're all a little that way. [Sally and Charlie Brown walk to school] You're really something, do you know that? I've never seen anyone who is so uptight about school. Why do you just relax?

[Sally is standing on her desk at school in the next scene]

Sally:
[confused] Who can relax?

Patricia 'Peppermint Patty' Reichardt:
I'm very discouraged, Chuck. We just had a 'true and false' test and it followed an essay test. We still have three months of school. There'll be more study, more tests, and more agony. How can one fall in love when all these stupid things are going on? Tests to do, reports to write - all these dumb things to do. There's no time for love, Chuck.
