    Sorry but there is no evidence that Socrates ever said that. This particular one started circulating in 2008.

      There is no evidence Socrates said anything. He did not write. Sayings attributed to him were passed down word of mouth. They were later written down by philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, et al.
      Whether a saying appeared on the internet before 2008 is not a valid means of verifying what someone said or did not say.

    Has anyone actually found this quote? I'm not aware of any who have cited an original source, and frankly it doesn't really have a socratic flavor to it. Until I see a source cited, I'll have to consider this one of those all-too-common phony Web memes. If either Socrates or Abraham Lincoln had said all the things that are falsely attributed to them, they'd have had to speak nonstop - and every word a pearl of wisdom - for about a hundred years.
