Bernie realized the necessity of participating in broader coalitions if he was ever to take his vision beyond the city limits.. He was looking to hold onto that (Jackson) base of support so he could challenge from the outside.

Greg Guma

Greg Guma is a writer, editor, historian, and progressive manager, working in Vermont, New Mexico and California since the 1960s. His tenure as CEO of Pacifica Radio highlights a career that began in a southern Vermont newsroom. Beginning in the 1970s he worked with Bernie Sanders, and wrote The People's Republic: Vermont and the Sanders Revolution, in 1989. His second novel, Dons of Time, was published by Fomite Press in 2013. Greg Guma's books include The People's Republic: Vermont and the Sanders Revolution (1989), Passport to Freedom (1992, with Garry Davis), Uneasy Empire: Repressions, Globalization and What We Can Do (2002), Spirits of Desire (2005), Big Lies (2011), Progressive Eclipse (2012), and Dons of Time (2013). He also wrote the 2003 play Inquisitions (and Other Un-American Activities), and scripts for documentaries on Haiti, Guatemala, Vietnam, and Bread & Puppet Theatre.
