Yes, I too have always found this quote intriguing and it is one of my favorites. I have come to understand it as seeing the goodness in all people. Like seeing the reflection of the moon on water, while it is clear, it is not what you see. It is a reflection of the actual moon. As such, when you see me, and I try to be a good man, you are seeing the goodness in yourself instead. That is, what you see is a reflection of yourself and your own Buddha-Nature (by me trying to be a good man, if that is what you see). That is the quality we all possess that makes each of us perfect. It is that quality that shows that each of us are capable of enlightenment. more »
