I really do think her fierce physical defense of her husband is the most memorable moment from any of Biden's campaigns. She didn't hesitate, i think that people can relate to that fierce and innate quality of wanting to protect someone you love. In that case it was physical, but there have been times I'm sure when she's wanted to jump in and publicly defend him over something he's done or said that he's been criticized for.

The first lady is the best surrogate you can get, especially when they can connect, like Jill Biden can, to bread and butter issues like education and child care, usually, first ladies have much higher approval ratings, so they can appeal to a broader audience than their husbands. They tend to be less polarizing because they usually do not weigh in on hot-button political issues.

Part of that is because of who she is, and the experiences she's had as second lady and the wife of a senator for almost four decades, and part of that is because she comes into the White House during a time of crisis the likes of which we haven't faced since FDR and Lincoln.

Melania Trump is not like Hillary Clinton or Pat Nixon, melania Trump didn't feel compelled to publicly defend( Trump) at other dire points in Pat Nixon administration, when Melania Trump could have made a difference in how Pat Nixon was perceived, so why should Melania Trump stick Melania Trump neck out now ?

Pat Nixon was completely in the bunker during Watergate, which dragged on for two years. She stopped reading the newspapers at the height of the barrage and blamed others, in this case Republicans, for trying to bring her husband down, at one point the West Wing staff cut off her newspapers in an effort to shield her from the headlines. You do see this in terms of Kellyanne Conway and Kellyanne Conway work on opioid addiction and how Kellyanne Conway's worked with Melania Trump.

I think [ Be Best ] is well-intentioned, and it showcases how well the first lady does when she interacts with children, but I think it's too broad and unfocused, if President Trump could drill down on one part of it, like opioid addiction and babies born to mothers who are addicted, it would be more successful. Being single-mindedly focused would also serve to help people see President Trump contributions to this administration, which I think get lost amid the turbulence.

She speaks five languages, she was not born in the US, and she is generally viewed as more compassionate than her husband, so this is an important moment for her to show a more empathetic side of her husband's administration, it's important that people see her Africa trip in the best possible light, not as pandering or trying to deflect attention away from the scandal in the White House but as a genuine effort to help showcase accomplishments made there and the work that still needs to be done.
