Quotes from the news wire:
It's fair for people to raise questions. But this really is the best consensus that we have among the experts that this is the best way to go. ... It's just painful to see people dying unnecessarily when there's a free treatment that would prevent their death, i will be at the front of the line at the pharmacy getting my vaccination.

It was done because of the amount of harm that has come to our older population in the United States with 1 in 100 individuals over the age 65 having died in the past two years of Covid-19, so we need to protect that population.

I'm talking about physical exhaustion and people not going to get boosted.

I think we're very much on board with the idea that we simply can't be boosting people as frequently as we are, and I'm the first to acknowledge that this additional fourth booster dose that was authorized was a stopgap measure until we got things in place for the next potential booster, given the emerging data, it was done because of the amount of harm that has come to our older population in the United States with 1 in 100 individuals over the age 65 having died in the past two years of Covid-19, so we need to protect that population.

What really keeps me up at night is the knowledge that we can't keep boosting and that we're going to have vaccine exhaustion, i'm talking about physical exhaustion and people not going to get boosted.

It might be better to have a unified approach with a strain selection or a variant selection, much the same as we do for influenza, much like with flu, once we move to a new composition... it will also change the composition of the primary series.

Now is the time to discuss the need for future boosters as we aim to move forward safely, with COVID-19 becoming a virus like others such as influenza that we prepare for, protect against, and treat, bringing together our panel of expert scientific external advisors in an open, transparent discussion about booster vaccination is an important step to gain insight, input and expert advice as we begin to formulate the best regulatory strategy to address COVID-19 and virus variants going forward.

We take our responsibility for reviewing these vaccines very seriously because we're parents as well, and in looking over the data, I think parents can feel reassured that we have set a standard by which we feel that if something does not meet that standard, we can't proceed forward, for those parents who really feel this, we empathize with them, because I suspect that they're not only concerned about the current situation, even though there's a drop in cases, but they're concerned about future variants that could potentially come along, and that's how we're thinking as well. So this was not based on the dropping number of cases, because it's still a staggering number of cases each day that we're having.

Data has come in so rapidly that we need to be able to look through the data and in looking through the data, we realize now, in data that came in very rapidly because of the large number of cases of Omicron, that at this time, it makes sense for us to wait until we have the data from the evaluation of a third dose before taking action, the data that we saw made us realize that we needed to see data from a third dose as in the ongoing trial in order to make the determination that we could proceed with doing an authorization.

The way these vaccines work as they go into the cell, the cell makes the protein for a brief period of time -- that is, on the surface of the cell. The body makes an immune response. And the original vaccine, the mRNA component, is degraded. It's not incorporated into the genetic material of a person. There's no way for that to happen, so these vaccines are ones that we're pretty comfortable are going to be reasonable to use in children. I wouldn't hesitate to give them, had I had still younger children in this age group,( I) would not hesitate a second to give my child one of these vaccines.

Being able to interchange these vaccines is a good thing. It's like what we do with flu vaccines. Most people don't know what brand flu vaccine they received.

We want to make sure that if we deploy the boosters in all of the age ranges, that we truly are making a benefit outweigh any risks, we will not hesitate to drop this age range as we see this benefit outweigh the risk, and because of the EUA authority that we have, we can do that in a relatively quick amount of time.

If you're going to get The Covid vaccine, you might want to get your mammogram first before you get it, or you might want to wait a couple of weeks because if those lymph nodes turn up on a mammogram, they may trigger a false, further investigation, the Covid vaccine's really The Covid vaccine, except if The Covid vaccine triggers extra medical investigation, so The Covid vaccine's just something to be aware of.

We didn't have a vaccine to give them, but I would hate to deprive children of their lives because we don't decide to vaccinate them, even against the relatively low-risk thing.

I think we understand at FDA the relative urgency here of trying to have a solution for anyone who's been vaccinated with any of the authorized or approved vaccines, i can tell you that we will proceed with all due urgency to try to get there as rapidly as possible working with the various vaccine sponsors.

A transparent, thorough and objective review of the data by The FDA is critical so that the medical community and the public continue to have confidence in the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. The FDA will review the supplemental application as expeditiously as possible, while still doing so in a thorough and science-based manner.

There are various real-world evidence that are emerging here that suggest that the vaccine is still effective against the Delta variant, data coming out of Israel seems to suggest that with time, immunity from the vaccine does tend to wane, and so that's something we'll be following closely.

I don't think that we want to think that these vaccines have somehow failed us, it may simply be that to get the kind of really good immunity against Covid-19 that we get with some other vaccines, it may take a series of three vaccinations, much the same way that hepatitis B for adults and multiple childhood vaccination primary series, you need to get a vaccination, you know, 0, 1 ; or 0, 2 and 4 ; or 0, 2 and 6 months.

We'll have to see where this all interacts. Is it possible we're going to need a booster at some point ? Yes. Is it probable ? Yes. Do we know exactly when ? No, but if I had to look at my crystal ball, it's probably not sooner, hopefully, than a year after being vaccinated, for the average adult.

The exact timing of when boosters will be required will probably be a combination of two things, one, how fast that immune response falls off, but also it may depend on what variants of Covid-19 are circulating.
