Quotes from the news wire:
The RA contacted me a couple weeks before and said, look, we don't think it's a great idea you go, but if you want to, you can, i just didn't want to make a big deal about it, so I said fine. We both kind of agreed that it would be best if I didn't.

There is the problem of off record comments being share out of context and without my consent, but the bigger issue is that I used words I sincerely regret that do not reflect my true feelings or intentions.

I'm beyond disappointed and will make every effort to self-reflect and learn from this.

They execute people over there for being gay. Knowing all of this, why would I even consider it? Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.

I've always been behind the Tour. I think Commissioner [ Jay ] Monahan is the right guy for the job, i think he's done an amazing job through Covid, something that people didn't give him enough credit for, what he was able to do in such challenging times. Rory McIlroy says golfs proposed Super League is dead in the water as stars announce commitment to PGA Tour.

I'm not even sure I want it to succeed, but just the idea of it is allowing us to get things done with the tour.

Player Impact Program so when you look at ‘22 through ’30, you look at all the opportunities out there, we're going to do as we've done in the past, which is more than compete favorably against anything else out there.

Not like I care, it happened 20-something years ago, it’s just the lack of appreciation, yeah, I don’t see that happening. I don’t see me coming back. Not that I don’t love the people here, they have been great, but not with that type of thing happening.

Look, it’s part of this tournament, and I was able to go without any doubles. I just didn’t make enough birdies to offset it.

It’s a unique opportunity because I’ve never won a U.S. Open. It’s in my backyard. I have a chance to prepare properly, and I wanted to put in the right work, so I’ve kind of shut off all the noise. I’ve shut off my phone. I’ve shut off a lot of the other stuff to where I can kind of focus in on this week.

My desire to play is the same, i’ve never been driven by exterior things. I’ve always been intrinsically motivated because I love to compete, I love playing the game. I love having opportunities to play against the best at the highest level. That’s what drives me, and the belief that I could still do it inspired me to work harder.

It’s an incredible experience. I’ve never had something like that, it was a little bit unnerving, but it was exceptionally awesome, too.

It’s very possible that this is the last tournament I ever win. Like if I’m being realistic, but it’s also very possible that I may have had a little bit of a breakthrough in some of my focus and maybe I go on a little bit of a run.

I'm not happy. I don't know if there's a right word I can say on here without getting fined, but it hurts a little bit, it's one of those things where I just never felt comfortable over the putts. I don't know why, what happened.

I'm just making more and more progress just by trying to elongate my focus, i might try to play 36, 45 holes in a day and try to focus on each shot so that when I go out and play 18, it doesn't feel like it's that much.

Having a partner provided for more interaction and I thought the intimacy of the cameras in the golf cart added a ton.

I would be open to the idea because of how it's being received, in a real competition on the PGA Tour, where you're competing for a title, you won't have that type of interaction.

It was a nice score on a day when it wasn't easy, the greens were firm, the wind made it difficult and I ended up making a good score, did a good job of getting the ball in the hole.

Dealing with losing in this game is a huge thing because even the best, the greatest winners, win such a small percentage of the time, but I have had so many special moments here at Pebble Beach. This was my first event as a pro, 1992, here.

I know it is a fine line between testing the best players to the greatest degree and then making it carnival golf, the USGA (U.S. Golf Association) are doing the best they can to find that line, and a lot of times they do, and sometimes they cross over it.

I didn't really have it today but I was able to close out the round with a couple of birdies and get it back to even, my iron play needs to be a little bit better. And when I miss a green I've got to be sharper around the greens.

It really does feel good to finally get the scores out of it, to know that I am playing well, i know that, as I look back on those other victories here, how special they were... I've got a little bit of work to get my ball striking back to that level that I need it to be for tomorrow's round. But it's fun to be back in the thick of it.

I am very pleased with the way I am striking the ball, the way I am chipping, putting, i thought I was going to shoot a lot lower than I did... I didn't expect to play one over( par) coming in. But I'm not going to complain because I made a lot of good putts on the front( nine).

I came out of my 3-wood a little bit so it was very short, and I didn't catch my next 3-wood that great, so I was left with 60 yards back into the wind. It was a perfect shot I could spin. It might not be a bad way to play the hole given those wind conditions. But I was disappointed I missed that putt. I had about a 6-footer. That would have been a heck of a par on that hole.

Chambers Bay’s a special course in that there are a lot of different shots to play to a lot of different pins, if you play the highest percentage shot Chambers Bay’s not Chambers Bay. But if you don’t know what [ the right ] shot is, there is a lot of penalty there.

I think that Tiger's going to have the last laugh, i think that his short game, historically, is one of the best of all time. I think his golf game is probably the best of all time.
Found on FOX News 9 years ago
I think the short game, when you haven't played, it's the first thing to feel uncomfortable and the quickest thing to get back, i don't think he's going to have any problems, I really don't. I think we all Phil Mickelson included have had stretches where we feel a little uncomfortable. We don't hit it solid, and usually it's just a small tweak, because it's such a short swing that it's not a hard thing to fix.

I feel like my game is where I want it to be, i just have to now shoot the scores. Last week was pretty encouraging. I didn't do all the things I want as well as I believe I can, and yet it was pretty close.

I flew it by him 25 yards, i have gotten a lot more speed in the offseason. That really bothered him. So the 14th hole is a dogleg right to left. I guess he really hammered one. I had not played the hole before. I just hit a little stock cut. ... He was 11 yards by me. If that's what it takes to stroke his ego, then that's what it takes. Had I known that he was going to make a big deal about it, I would have swung a fraction harder and put it past him.

The little nuances of getting the ball in the hole have been slightly off but it was a day today that could have been really low, it had a lot of potential and I ended up making too many bogeys and letting some birdie opportunities slide.
