I do think that the charges are much more serious against Trump related to the election, but falsifying business records can also be a crime. (I’m more skeptical about combining that in a state court with a federal campaign finance violation.).

I don’t expect Trump to be put in jail if he is indicted for any of these charges, jail time would only come if he were convicted and sentenced to jail time.

Most of these changes are unnecessary to make voting more efficient or to prevent fraud, which is quite rare in our elections, these measures are political and are being passed on a partisan basis for partisan reasons.

So long as we are talking about campaign contributions within statutory limits made without an explicit promise to do or not do something, there is nothing illegal going on.

For the campaign finance violation to be criminal, prosecutors would have to prove a wilful violation, if Trump did not know that he was violating campaign finance laws by directing the spending he would not be criminally liable.
