I don't think I'm doing anything any different than a lot of what other Black mothers do, and also what mothers do, try to protect their kids. In my view of what is protection it's not just my own, it's this community that I've lived in for 17 years. It's all of the children in this community that my children will grow up around.

Even if we were not talking about this case, specifically, it takes the death of a person, I’d say, from a very cold and distant point of view, i keep coming back to empathy. It is not an empathetic point of view of a person who died, it is blaming a person who’s died for their own death.
