If I’m playing in the event, I’m going to try and beat you, so I don’t understand that making the cut’s a great thing. If I entered the event, it’s always to get a W. There will come a point in time when my body will not allow me to do that anymore, and it’s probably sooner rather than later, but wrapping my ahead around that transition and being the ambassador role and just trying to be out here with the guys, no, that’s not in my DNA.

I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day, never full time, ever again, but pick and choose, just like Mr.( Ben) Hogan did, pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that. You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. And you play. I think that’s how I ’m going to have to play it from now on.

I’ve been lucky enough to be doing this since 1995, and I do n’t know if I ’ll be physically able to play another British Open here at St. Andrews, i certainly feel like I ’ll be able to play more British Opens but do n’t know if I ’ll be around when it comes back around here. I disagree with it, i think that what they've done is they've turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position. Some players have never got a chance to even experience it. They’ve gone right from the amateur ranks right into that organization. And never really had a chance to play out here and what it feels like to play a tour schedule or play in some big events.

The plan was to play the U.S. Open, but physically I was not able to do that, there's no way physically I could have done that. I had some issues with my leg and it would have put this tournament in jeopardy, and so there's no reason to do that.

This is a pretty historic Open that we are going to be playing, i'm lucky enough to be part of the past champions that have won there, and want to play there again, and I don't know when they are ever going to go back while I'm still able to play at a high level. I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level.

We've been able to go out there and compete, he's got a lot better at throwing the needle at me now and he's accepting it faster and reversing it back. We have a deal, in the backyard generally every night we'll play putting matches and the winner gets to keep the green jacket in the closet.

To have them experience what it feels like to be part of a major championship and watch their dad fail and not get it done, and now to be a part of it when I did get it done, I think it's two memories that they will never forget, just watching them fight over the Green Jacket on the airplane was pretty funny. We all knew it was soft out here with the rain last night, i knew I had to go get it, post a low one, and didnt do it. Its certainly out there. Greens are soft. Fairways are soft. You can play aggressively and not have any real ramifications for playing aggressive.

I didn't hit any good shots and didn't make any putts. Other than that it added up to a round that broke 80, the driver felt fine but I just didn't feel sharp with anything else. My iron game, which is usually the strongest part of my game, was off ... my distance control was off.

Relative to the field, I was about that long early in my career, when youre able to hit the ball much further than other players, and get on the right golf courses where setups like this is penalizing if you are a little bit crooked, and if he does miss it, he misses on the correct side, and hes far enough down there to where he was able to get the ball on the green. And he did all the little things right.

Hes driving it 330 yards in the middle of the fairway. Hes got 9-irons when most of us are hitting 5-irons, 4-irons, and hes putting well, that adds up to a pretty substantial lead, and if he keeps doing what hes doing, theres no reason why he cant build on this lead.

I had serious doubts after what transpired a couple years ago. I could barely walk. I couldn't sit. Couldn't lay down. I really couldn't do much of anything, luckily I had the procedure on my back, which gave me a chance at having a normal life. But then all of a sudden, I realized I could actually swing a golf club again.

I missed a few putts out there, but Im not too bummed out about it, because I hit them on my lines, i can live with that. I can live with days when Im hitting putts on my lines and they just dont go in. Thats the way it goes. Both shots Im just trying to hit the ball into the slope and just walk away with a 20 -, 25-footer and move on about my business, i was pretty ticked, no doubt about that, and I was bound and determined to get it all back and get it back to( 5 under), and I thought that would have been a hell of a fight. Im very happy with the way Ive been grinding around this golf course, ive missed a few opportunities to get up-and-down for birdie. Overall, I think Ive putted pretty solidly. Other than 17 today, I really havent done a whole lot wrong. I very easily could be up near that lead. Theres no way I would be leading, but I would be close enough to that lead given the weekend and the forecast.

Number-wise and club-wise, it shouldnt be that hard, but we all know if you land it up on top, its got a good chance of getting out of here. And thats the tricky part : Its just a wedge and you want to get it somewhere up there where you got a chance to make birdie, but you just cant afford to land it too far up on top.

With Tiger's career, with him taking a break, being injured and now being back, there's always something to talk about with him so people are a bit curious, which is understandable, some of the biggest frustrations I've had in my career is always being known as someone's relative versus Earl Woods. When I was growing up, there wasn't anybody on the LPGA Tour, obviously, I loved watching Annika Sorenstam and Grace Park, but as a young child looking to someone I could really relate to and have some kind of connection with, I felt Grace Park was lacking.

I just can’t believe I pulled this off after you know, what the season’s gone through, and it’s been tough, i’ve had a not-so-easy couple years, and I worked my way back and I couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone around me. Some of the players I saw after, on the 18th green, some knew what I was struggling with…it was really special to see them there.

Each tournament I keep feeling a little bit better because I'm starting to play some golf again, i've put Tiger Woods up there in contention a couple of times. ( I) just need to lay some cleaner golf, and who knows ?

It was nice to make a couple of birdies coming in, granted missed a little kick-in on 14, i thought I might give Tiger Woods a chance at the 10-under mark starting the turn. Evidently I would have had to shoot 24 on the back nine to have a chance.

I rolled it well today, hit a lot of good putts early that didn't go in, i misread a couple on the back nine. Overall I hit a lot of good putts and it was nice to feel that and nice to feel the putter swinging again.

We're back on old bumpy poa, this is basically what I grew up on out on the West Coast. A lot of times you can hit great putts on poa and they don't go in. The key is to hit putts solid and see what happens.

The weather is supposed to come in and it's supposed to be iffy. If there's wind associated with it, I don't think the guys will shoot as low, they gave us some new pins that were kind of surprising so we'll see what happens.

It was nice to see a few putts go in. I hit a lot of quality shots and 65 was probably as high as I could have shot today, which was kind of nice, to be eight-under there through 12 — realistically, I probably could have got a couple more out of it and got to 10( under) for the day.

Boy, it was nice to turn the round completely around there, they were into it early. Towards the back nine it started getting a little sparse. I think they might have tipped back a couple and got a little sleepy.

I'm very pleased with the way I'm swinging, i need obviously to do some practising with my putter. It's just a matter of making sure I get the right speed for those greens because( they are) going to be a little bit quicker than here.

I've struggled with the greens being as slow as they are, yesterday I was blocking them ; today I was pulling them trying to hit them harder... and release the toe of my putter and I just wasn't doing it right.

I certainly was frustrated, there's no doubt about that. I missed so many putts, but you got to put it behind and move on to the next one and hit the next shot with just as much commitment and I did that all day and unfortunately I didn't make anything until the last hole.

I struggled with my speed all day, it's weird. The greens are slow. They're springy and firm. That's not a combination you would expect. I struggled making the adjustments today.

This is fun. We play hardly any golf courses anymore in the States that I get( to use) my two-iron. This is one of those courses, my biggest concern is learning the greens so fast. I hadn't putted on Bermuda greens this fast in a very long time.

It's frustrating not being able to win golf tournaments, not really being there in contention very often... but I know how close it feels and I know I just need a couple of shots here and there and it turns the tide, people don't really realize how close it is between a person who is winning( a tournament) and a person missing the cut.

I didn't think that it would take this long because I thought I would have my short game earlier, you can cover up a lot of different things when you're chipping and putting well. I didn't have it at the beginning of the year... so that process of scoring has taken a lot longer because of that. But things are starting to come together.

Once you're inside the ropes, it's time to tee it up and time to play, you go out there, and for me I focus, I get into my little world, my little zone and do the best I possibly can for that -- well, it used to be four hours; now it's five-hour rounds -- a five-hour time period, grind it out and win golf tournaments. Tiger Woods remember the old cassette tapes ? i used to make my own cassette tapes, and then they had Disc Man. They didn't have a holder for the waist, so I took one of the cassette holders and took that off and epoxied it to the Disc Man and listened to my discs as I practiced.

Competing is still the same, i'm trying to beat everybody out there. That hasn't changed. I prepare to win and expect to go and do that. Yes. Because it's what I've always wanted to do. I would be wasting my time if I was out there practicing as much as I do and putting as much into it if I didn't want to be in this position, and wasting the people's time around me, as well, that helped me get to this point, of course I want to be that guy. I said it last year, golf is waiting for someone like that to step forward, put their hand up and win the big tournaments.
