PFC Dawson:

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:

Colonel Robert Sink:
[shouting] How you getting back across the river?

Sergeant Matt Baker:

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
I don't know, my ears are still ringing.

Colonel Robert Sink:

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
Okay, that time I definitely heard liver - maybe he's drunk. We'll just swim back across the liver, sir!

Sgt. Greg 'Mac' Hassay:
Which one of you a**holes was raining Artie over here? We almost had a building crumble on top of us!

Sergeant Matt Baker:
Paddock, sir.

Sgt. Greg 'Mac' Hassay:
Oh. That makes sense.

Pvt. Franky LaRoche:
[Trying to impress a Dutch girl] Yeah, we're kinda like the hot shots of the 101st. We save people's asses and... you can't understand a word I'm saying, can you?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:

PFC Dawson:
It was about anyone who touched that pistol! They all died! For some reason, it doesn't seem to strike anyone else as extraordinarily odd!

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
It does. They lost friends, is what you're poking at. It's not an easy thing to talk about.

PFC Dawson:
Why is it so easy for you?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
[Smiles] Because I believe every damn word of it!

PFC Dawson:
[He and Baker sit against a tree on the outskirts of Eindhoven] Hope to God those Kraut wankers leave us alone for tonight.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
You certainly have a specific way of talking, I'll give you that.

PFC Dawson:
[Notices Baker holding his pistol] Is that 'the' gun?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
Yeah, I had use it in Eindhoven. The kid almost shot me. He doesn't understand... any of this.

PFC Dawson:
Do you?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
What's that?

PFC Dawson:
Understand all this? That? [Gestures to the gun]

Sergeant Matt Baker:
You really buy into that sh*t?

PFC Dawson:
You don't purchase faith. Those men died holding a pistol that you refused to take because, as some pointed out, you were too afraid. I mean, forgive me for not thinking it's all random chance.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
It was my father's. That's why I didn't want it.

PFC Dawson:
Yeah, who also died holding it.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
What are you trying to prove, Dawson?

PFC Dawson:
That you are hiding something.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[Goes through several haunting flashbacks of Normandy] I'm not hiding anything.

PFC Dawson:
I talked to someone who would disagree with you.

Sergeant Matt Baker:

Paddock:
Uh, come again, Beans?

Pvt. Franky LaRoche:
I never kissed a girl before... I mean, I guess my mother...

Paddock:
Uh, your mom don't count.

Pvt. Dale McCreary:
Oh, she counts. Have you seen the pictures?

Paddock:
There's pictures?

Pfc. Jack Courtland:
Don't listen to them, Franky. I didn't kiss a dame until I was seventeen.

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
Well, we made the link-up with Thirty Corps and did our part. Think we'll get home on time?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
Well, according to Montgomery, Thirty Corps ain't two days late... which they are.

Pvt. Jacob Campbell:
What's your hurry, Red?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
[Cringes slightly] I just want to meet my daughter before she turns three.

PFC Dawson:
[Stands next to Baker] We're moving out again. Back down Hell's Highway towards Veghel.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
Keep walking.

PFC Dawson:
[Looks at Baker] I know about Kevin.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
I don't know a Kevin.

PFC Dawson:
Pvt. Kevin Leggett? I spoke to him just outside of Carentan. Seemed awefully distraught about something. He opened up very quick about what that something was.

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[Grabs and slams Dawson against a Jeep] WHAT DO YOU WANT?

PFC Dawson:
Exactly what I have been trying to tell you before, Matthew! You've been hiding something about those dead soldiers! About Allen and... I forget the other chap's name...

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[Through clentched teeth] Garnett!

PFC Dawson:
Yeah, that's the one. [Shoves Baker back] You tell them, or I will! The choice is yours, mate.

Holden:
How solid is our intel? Do we know for sure there will be Germans attacking the gliders? Seems like a foolish move.

Pvt. Tom Zanovich:
We don't know for sure, that's why it's called Recon.

Holden:
Oh, I am well aware of the ramifications. We protect the brass by dying first. I understand.

Pvt. Tom Zanovich:
The Gospel According to Holden!

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
[Learning about Col. Cole's death] Why would he do that? Why would he do something so goddamn reckless?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
He saved alot of lives, Red!

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
But now how many will die because he isn't around to lead them? It's not about one battle, Matt!

Sergeant Matt Baker:
Would you prefer he still be around with nothing to lead instead? What's the life of one officer worth to you? Twenty men? Forty?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
[Anger growing] You know damn well, I value-!

Sgt. Greg 'Mac' Hassay:
[Walking in on Baker and Red] Everything all right in here?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
Just talking! [Looks at Mac] What do you need?

Sgt. Greg 'Mac' Hassay:
Word from Division. We are heading to Eindhoven to rendevoux with Sink and the 506. You'll be linking up with Thirty Corps. Good luck.

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
Is that it?

Sgt. Greg 'Mac' Hassay:
Well, if you want my advice- And that's rhetorical- Keep the war out there!

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[Last lines. Baker stands on a Jeep] Alright, everyone! Fall in on me, let's move! [the squad gathers in front of Baker] Men, it's been 10 days, and there isn't anyone here who hasn't given all he had. Some gave more. We lost Franky, Friar, and Marsh... and Red. The collapse broke part of his back. Paralyzed him. He won't ever walk again, but he can talk. And do you know what he said? He asked me if any of us were worth it. We've all made mistakes. We've all questioned what we are doing here, and we all feel burdened by the cost of the fight, especially in the face of defeat. But I'm not retreating. I am still standing here with you, I am still standing right here! I'll lead us right into Berlin if it's asked of us and it probably will be! Now I know some of you don't trust me right now [Camera cuts to Corrion] And some of you are clinging to superstition [Camera cuts to Dawson] That ends right now! Look, I know we all feel like we need something to blame... But it's just a goddamn gun! [He turns and throws his pistol into the nearby woods, then turns back to the squad] So here we are... Brothers, fathers, saints, and sinners. Lets take the fight back to the Germans.

Paddock:
...Well, sh*t. [Clears his throat] I mean, if you're going to use all them... pretty words.

Cpl. Sam Corrion:
I can't. [He turns and walks away, Baker watching him go]

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[Voiceover] What is it that makes a great soldier? His brain or his heart?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
[to Corrion asking about promotion] 'It's my job to keep you alive. You follow orders or you die.' Those are your words! I heard you say that to Franky, right to his face. And he died in my f***ing arms because you couldn't make him understand!

Leggett:
So you've been through Hell... Tell me Matthew, how do you feel about snow?

Sergeant Matt Baker:
I can handle snow.

Holden:
Are you looking for absolution?

Paddock:
Does that mean forgiveness?

Holden:
I don't believe we are the ones you need forgiveness from. I think you should go talk to Campbell.

Paddock:
He still can't talk.

Holden:
But he can listen.

Friar:
[Noticing the words Bullet Magnet painted on the Jeep] Why did you let Jasper paint that on the hood?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
It sounded funny at the time.

Friar:
What about now?

Sergeant Joe 'Red' Hartsock:
Has its moments.
