Catching Faith

Jael:
God's plans for us don't always look like we think they should, but the good news is, questioning doesn't mean that we've failed as His followers.

Alexa Taylor:
She is making me crazy.

John Taylor:
I know.

Alexa Taylor:
It wasn't supposed to be like this. I'm supposed to move my kids out before moving in my mother. She took the... she's taking over my house.

John Taylor:
I know. Babe, I know. Look, this's how she's dealing with it. It's the only thing she can control.

[John takes his tie off]

Alexa Taylor:
Okay.

John Taylor:
We gotta talk about Beau's drinking.

Alexa Taylor:
Wait, what drinking?

John Taylor:
The other night when we picked him up, he had been drinking.

Alexa Taylor:
How do you know?

John Taylor:
Alexa, trust me. He smelled like it. He was drunk.

Alexa Taylor:
What's there to talk about?

John Taylor:
Um, our responsibility as parents? Beau's responsibility? We all signed that athletic code.

Alexa Taylor:
John, look around you. Look at this mess. I can't deal with anything else right now. I can't.

John Taylor:
Organizing those boxes is not as important as your family. Look, I've been praying about this.

John Taylor:
Your Mom and I believe you have to honor that code of conduct. We all signed it. You have to turn yourself in.

Beau Taylor:
Wh-why? I mean, everybody drinks all the time?

John Taylor:
I know. That's why we've been struggling with this. Look, if you believe in God, then you have to tell the truth.

Beau Taylor:
Oh, we've never done that before.

Alexa Taylor:
We do now.

Beau Taylor:
This is stupid.

[Beau tries to walk off but John blocks him]

Beau Taylor:
What?

John Taylor:
Do you know what integrity is?

Beau Taylor:
Yes. It's doing the right thing.

John Taylor:
It's not just that. It's doing the right thing when nobody's watching you.

Grandma Loretta:
God's always watching.

John Taylor:
I want our family to have integrity where our words and our actions match up.

Beau Taylor:
You serious?

Coach Z:
You got caught, Beau, and there are consequences. Now, you can either let those consequences define you or you can let God define you.

Coach Z:
[to Beau] Son, the quarterback sees the whole field. He knows where the defense will intercept it or He knows where the pass will be complete. That's his job. Your job's just run the play. You understand what I'm tryin' to tell ya? I'm talkin' about God, son. Have a little faith in Him. He's been doing this a long time.

Alexa Taylor:
We caught Beau drinking at a party. He wasn't arrested but now my husband doesn't think he should get away with it.

John Taylor:
[in bed, seeing Alexa crying at the window while it rains] Honey? Come back to bed.

Alexa Taylor:
I feel like we've made a horrible mistake.

John Taylor:
Well, we didn't. We did the right thing.

Alexa Taylor:
I'm glad my father's not here to see this. It would've broken his heart.

John Taylor:
You're father... would have been proud.

Alexa Taylor:
He was the kind of parent that *I* wanted to be.

Alexa Taylor:
[cries] I feel like my heart is gonna break.

John Taylor:
Let it break.

Alexa Taylor:
I'm learning that God created me just to be His child and that is enough.

Beau Taylor:
This is so embarrassing, being chauffeured around by my Mom. I can't *believe* that you took my car away. Ya know, they can't win without me. Everyone will hate me. They'll know it was *you* who made *me* tell them. You know what? You can't make me tell 'em.

Alexa Taylor:
You're absolutely right. I can't.

Beau Taylor:
I know.

Alexa Taylor:
But, *I* can go in there and tell them. It's your choice.

[Beau gets out of the car]

Alexa Taylor:
You're making me feel like I'm not good enough, like my answers aren't good enough. Sorry I'm not as perfect as you. Not everybody has all the answers all the time!

Alexa Taylor:
Beau. Beau?

[Beau gets out of the car]

Alexa Taylor:
Beau! Beau, come back in the car!

Beau Taylor:
Leave me alone!

[Beau starts walking; Alexa follows]

Beau Taylor:
What are you doing?

Alexa Taylor:
I'm driving you home.

Beau Taylor:
You're just embarrassing yourself.

[the car behind Alexa starts honking]

Alexa Taylor:
I don't care.

[Beau gets back in the car]

Alexa Taylor:
It's OK to be angry. We can even be angry at God.

Beau Taylor:
Good, because I am.

Ravyn Taylor:
Hey. How you doin'?

Beau Taylor:
Well, Mom and Dad are mad at me, team hates me, can't play football in my Senior year? Things are awesome.

Ravyn Taylor:
Sorry, Beau. I'm gonna go home and study.

[Ravyn takes off and Beau catches up to her]

Beau Taylor:
So, I'm gonna go home, too.

Ravyn Taylor:
What about practice?

Beau Taylor:
Oh, I'm sure the bench won't miss me.

Ravyn Taylor:
So, you wanna walk with me.

Beau Taylor:
Yeah! You're my only friend now. Plus, I think we should talk about YOU.

Ravyn Taylor:
I should've known.

Beau Taylor:
What are you doing cheating, Ravyn?

Ravyn Taylor:
I haven't read it.

Beau Taylor:
Then why do you still have it?

Ravyn Taylor:
You don't understand the pressure I'm under.

Beau Taylor:
But it's good to be under pressure. It means you're still in the game.

Ravyn Taylor:
I haven't done anything wrong.

Beau Taylor:
You should keep it that way. I don't know how I'm gonna sit on the bench for the rest of the season.

[Ravyn tosses the football to Beau]

Beau Taylor:
No way. You wanna go play some catch or what, eh? Let's do it. Let's see some green.

Beau Taylor:
[under a pile of teammates in the living room] Oh, c'mon, Grandma, we're football players. We gotta practice sometime.

Female Partner #2:
What do YOU do?

Alexa Taylor:
Well, John and I have twins. My son is the star of the football team. My daughter is valedictorian.

Jezi Adams:
My son just called me. Beau Taylor turned himself in for drinking at a party. Alexa is getting so self-righteous. I mean, everybody knows that teenagers drink. Do you wanna know what I think? I think she made him do it. I would never do that to my son. I'm sure he drinks, you know, but as long as he's safe and doesn't get caught by the police, I'm fine with it.

Hairdresser:
I'm sorry, I just can't color your hair, it's so dry.

Jezi Adams:
Just do it. Who does she think she is? Without Beau, we can't win the championship this year. How could she do this to me? I thought that she was my friend. Obviously she is not.

Grandma Loretta:
Alexa, if you would have parented them like I told you when they were three years old, you wouldn't be experiencing these behavioral problems at seventeen.

Coach Z:
[Coach Z is talking to a group of football players before the big game] Last night, I wrote out this big speech. 'Bout what I was gonna say to you boys, you know what, then I thought "they understand football". You understand the X's and O's. But what I want to talk to you about today is that I'm proud of each and everyone of you. Not for what you achieved on the field, but what you achieved off the field. You've become a family, become a team. When we first started this we were just individuals. we learned to work with each other, and when your brother gets down, you picked him up. and I'm really proud of that. How this is a big day for us, big day for this town, we haven't had a championship here in well over six years. I'd like to win that thing. But if we don't; I want you to know that I'll be just as proud of you as if you had. So before you go out on that field, I want you to pray for a win, I want you to pray that your friends say safe, that the other team stays safe. And if you play like a family, like the team you've become, nobody's gonna stop you. Are you with me?

[the football players clap and cheer]

Coach Z:
Everybody go get dressed out, see Donnie for your game jersey's and I'll see you out on the field.
