Mother Maria:

Homer Smith:
[to Mother Maria, who is staring in amazement as she hears the bells in the chapel steeple ringing] The chapel is now finished.

Sister Gertrude:
[Mrs. Everett has withdrawn her funding and support because of Felicia's pregnancy] What did the rich lady want?

Mother Maria:
[pause, then] She is not rich... she is poor.
