Frankenstein: The True Story

Dr. Henry Clerval:
You're afraid. I was afraid at first. It's the way we've been brought up. We've been brought up to fear! To fear the punishment of the gods. But Prometheus defied them.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
And they punished him!

Dr. Henry Clerval:
He scorned their punishment. So has every other hero that's stolen secrets from nature to give to mankind.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
You know, I find I enjoy being a criminal.

Dr. Henry Clerval:
The process is reversing itself!

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
The process is r... R? Ready to begin!

Dr. John Polidori:
What a model parent you've been! You loved your creature so long as it was pretty but when it lost its looks, Hah! That was another matter! So much for your dainty conscience.

Dr. John Polidori:
And what different futures, your and mine. But each will have what each desires. Only fools like Henry Clerval want vulgar fame. I shall have the power that works unseen, that moves the world. You alone, Frankenstein, when you read in your newspaper that a monarch has been deposed or that two nations are at war with each other, will say to yourself - that's the hand of Polidori. That's the man who once called me colleague.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
Long live Polidori the invisible. May his plots thicken.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
[to the Creature, viciously] Are you satisfied now? Have you punished me enough for giving you life? [he calms down, then:] I've wronged you, I know. I, I disowned you. I wanted to destroy you. How can I blame you for anything that you've done? Poor creature... you're as weary of life as I am. If only I could rid mankind of us both. I'm a weak human, I can't stay long in this terrible place. But your iron body will keep you alive against your will. You'll be all alone here. That would be too cruel. Forgive me. Please forgive me. [the creature doesn't answer] *Forgive me!* [the shout and its echoes begin to cause an avalanche]

The Creature:
[in a flashback to his "birth" and first words] Beautiful.

[In Henry Clerval's voice]

The Creature:
Victor. Bravo. Bravo, Victor. [as the ice cave crumble around them, they walk towards each other and the Creature places a hand on Victor's shoulder]

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
Rest.

The Creature:
[in Henry Clerval's voice] Do you still assume the authority of the almighty, Miss Fanschawe?

Elizabeth Fanschawe:
[she and the Creature are face to face over Victor's unconscious body] What more do you want from him?

The Creature:
Victor made me.

Elizabeth Fanschawe:
God has forgiven him that sin. He has a child now.

The Creature:
Child?

Elizabeth Fanschawe:
What do you know of life, you thing of death?

Prima:
Dr. Polidori says I look remarkably old for my age.

Dr. John Polidori:
[to the Creature] I can't abide delicacy, especially in monsters.

Dr. John Polidori:
[to Frankenstein] You want to be rid of him just as much as I do, you hyprocrite!

Elizabeth Fanschawe:
[to Frankenstein] Victor! That man is your worst enemy! Leave him to his fate!

Dr. John Polidori:
[to the Creature, referring to Victor] He not only made you, he made a mess of you.

Dr. John Polidori:
It's a wise monster that knows its own father.

The Creature:
[hypnotized and speaking in Henry Clervel's voice] For God's sake, help me, Polidori!

Dr. John Polidori:
I can't help you, Henry. And God certainly won't. Why should he? He didn't create this... freak.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
Why can't I create life out of death? Out of my brother's corpse?

Elizabeth Fanschawe:
That's how Satan tempted our Lord.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein:
If Satan could teach me how to bring William to life again, I'd gladly become his pupil.
