There were 3 lessons Halsey always lived by ( about 2/3 of the way through the movie ) but I can remember only 2

1. It is better to always tell the truth

2. It is better to be Free than a Slave

Halsey:
“No captain can do very wrong, who

places his ship alongside that of an enemy.”

"I recall a fella end of a long life who said he learned only three things. He said, 'I believe it's better to tell the truth than to lie; I believe it's better to know than to be ignorant; I believe it's better to be free than to be a slave.'"
