[Sundance and his men are digging a well]

Aaron Donager:
And as Moses angrily smote the rock, it spewed forth water.

Sundance:
That ain't water by a long shot. That's drillin' mud.

Aaron Donager:
Feel in the mood for a little Yankee advice?

Sundance:
Such as what they said to Moses when he smote the rock: "It won't work"?

Aaron Donager:
No.

[indicates Sundance's well digging crew]

Aaron Donager:
No matter what you do you won't make them work.

Monique Deveraux:
C'est moi, Monique Devereaux!

Sundance:
I guess I should have know you with all those curls. Well, what I mean... I never thought you'd forget English in so short a time.

[Monique speaks rapidly in French]

Sundance:
You wouldn't mind sayin' that in Comanche, would you?

Monique Deveraux:
The more things change, the more things stay the same - and you are still the same as ever.

Raphael Riordan:
Monique could say it a lot better in French, but here goes, "He who excuses himself, accuses himself."

Sundance:
I don't know what to think about you, Riordan. I mean, well, maybe I changed. You got money, you got manners, you punch right, you shoot fast, you can dig a well and you just took my side. You know, you do everything right, but there's just one thing wrong - you just ain't no good.

[last lines]

Sarah:
After all we been through, killing him seems such a waste.

Sundance:
When I had my hands on his neck, it was like kidney beans and molasses - not much good for you but kind of hard to stop.

Sarah:
I could kill him myself now and not even think about it. It would just be the easiest thing... but I've got to keep him alive! He's the only one who can clear Dave's name.

Sundance:
That don't make no difference now. Dave's dead - his name died with him.

Sarah:
No it didn't! Carter's my name, too. And I won't change it and I won't hide it. My husband was not a murderer. He was a man I could be proud of.

Sundance:
I promised Dave...

Sarah:
Whatever you promised Dave isn't as important as what you owe him.

Boyd Heslop:
I'm gonna need your help.

Sarah:
You dig your grave and I'll help ya, mister - but not for anything else.

[Aaron tries to help the hungover Sundance to sit up]

Sundance:
Careful! Careful. I-I think my head's gonna fall off.

Aaron Donager:
Small loss. You haven't been using it anyway.

Aaron Donager:
Sundance, he caught him!

Sundance:
Who? What?

Aaron Donager:
He caught the man that killed and robbed those three miners.

Sundance:
Who caught him?

Aaron Donager:
His name is Coble. He's comin' with this Cal Eaton just as calm as you please. He claimed the reward money.

Sundance:
Aaron, it's like I always said - there ain't nothin' like a little hard-earned cash to bring out the courage in a man.

Annette Deveraux:
Will you be kind enough to tell me if we're in the hotel business or the prison business?

[Sundance snaps the ten dollar bill Coble gave him to lock his prisoner in the hotel basement]

Sundance:
The hotel business.

[to the light-fingered Andy]

Sundance:
I'm goin' to make a deal with you, boy. Now, you just stay out of my way, you put on about ten years, then you can come lookin' for me - you hear?

Coble:
Wait'll this town finds out that the killers just walked in and collected their own reward.

[last lines]

Sundance:
How's Andy?

Monique Deveraux:
The doctor says he's a very obstinate boy. He absolutely refuses to die.

Sundance:
He does, huh?

Monique Deveraux:
Mm-hmm

[Sundance walks away]

Annette Deveraux:
Where are you going now?

Sundance:
Well, if he's going to live, I gotta get some new door locks.

[first lines]

Sundance:
Aaron, aren't you afraid you might get a customer over the store?

Aaron Donager:
No no, Ben's watchin' the store.

Sundance:
Must have somethin' better to do than sit there goin' "Tsk-tsk-tsk-tsk" every move I make.

Aaron Donager:
Well, it's not every day I see you tangle with an inventory and I don't want to miss it.

Aaron Donager:
[about Ellie] Well, I know she's got her troubles, but puttin' in with a pair like the Prentisses isn't exactly gonna set her on the road to hope and glory.

[last lines]

Sundance:
Don't give up, Ellie. You hear me?

Ellie:
I hear you.

Sundance:
[about Aaron] He may not hold the world record for stubbornness, but he sure sets a mark for most other men to shoot at.

[upon hearing Bearcat's loud, off-key singing]

Aaron Donager:
There's no doubt about it - drunk or sober, in the whole of Colorado, there ain't another voice as terrifyin' as that... Beartracks Conlon.

Sundance:
That is the only voice I ever heard that was aged in wood.

Beartracks Conlon:
I'll admit I ain't much of a singer, but it sure do scare off the bear and the mountain cats.

Aaron Donager:
Wouldn't surprise me none if it didn't cure warts as well.

[Beartracks has broken his leg]

Aaron Donager:
How'd you do that, Beartracks?

Beartracks Conlon:
Well, I figured you'd ask me that; now, I guess I'm gonna have to tell you. You just think of the most mortifyin' thing could happen to an old trapper like me and that's just exactly what happened. I did it, I stepped my foot right smack in the middle of one of my own traps... and if I wasn't such a kindhearted old cuss, I'da just left myself there to die - that's just how disgusted I was.

Oliver Weatherford:
You see, the fountainhead of all business principle and practice is the law of supply and demand. They operate inexorably. Now when the supply is greater than the demand, well, the influence on the bargaining power is effected proportionally.

Sundance:
You know, you can forget about all that money we lost; forget about all that time we invested; all that aggravation we went through - just think about poor old Beartracks...

Aaron Donager:
Sundance...

Sundance:
...a whole season's worth of work - that's all he's got to show for it.

Aaron Donager:
Sundance, it's been two whole hours since Weatherford pushed off...

Sundance:
[disgusted] Apple pie.

Aaron Donager:
...don't you think if we put our heads together, we could maybe come up with a different topic of conversation?

[during the Indian attack, Weatherford hides behind a large rock]

Sundance:
All right, you can come out now.

Oliver Weatherford:
But they'll be back, won't they?

Sundance:
Likely, yeah.

Oliver Weatherford:
We're outnumbered. We don't have a chance!

Sundance:
You could be right, Mr. Weatherford. I reckon this is one time your law of supply and demand isn't operatin' in your favor.

Sundance:
I don't know about you, but I'm gonna have me a cup of coffee.

Oliver Weatherford:
You-you mean you're just gonna sit there and wait for them?

Sundance:
Well, I suppose we could go lookin' for 'em, but that seems a little more obligin' than the situation calls for.

Oliver Weatherford:
Tell you what I'll do, though. I'll let you have the wagon and everything in it for the horse.

Sundance:
That ain't much of a bargain. You was goin' to leave the wagon here anyway.

Oliver Weatherford:
Well, I'll buy the horse from you!

Sundance:
Oh, wait a minute. I-I don't see how I could do that. I mean, my horse is like blood kin to me. I expect Mr. Donagan over there feels pretty much the same about his.

Oliver Weatherford:
Well, then I'll buy the mule from you. He's not a distant cousin.

Sundance:
No, but he's a good friend. He's loyal, trustworthy - never talks back.

Oliver Weatherford:
You're taking advantage of me just because you can.

Sundance:
No, I just learned my business methods from you, that's all. Now you told me - you said, "Price is affected by the law of supply and demand." Now, I got the supply and you got the demand. You'll pay five hundred dollars for this mule or you'll have to walk.

Oliver Weatherford:
I'll get the money.

Sundance:
If a snowstorm catches us before we reach the flats, they'll likely to be chippin' us out of the hillside come spring thaw.

Chief Whitefeather:
This wagon... not yours?

Sundance:
Sure it is. I make a deal for it - me and my partner

Chief Whitefeather:
Whitefeather make deal for horses. Find Blackfeet with them; kill Blackfeet; take horses. Deal?

Aaron Donager:
That's what I call the law of supply and demand in its purest form.

Chief Whitefeather:
You are more than friend. You are my brother!

Sundance:
[to Aaron] I'm just glad I ain't got no more brothers like him. I couldn't hardly afford 'em.

[last lines]

Aaron Donager:
Some trip. We crawl over the dang mountain and just about get our forty dollars back.

Sundance:
Well, we got a little more than that, Aaron.

Aaron Donager:
Like what for instance?

Sundance:
Like a little learnin' in the law of supply and demand that I ain't gonna forget in a hurry for instance.

Aaron Donager:
Sundance, I'm gonna take your gun.

Sundance:
You're gonna take my what?

Aaron Donager:
Keep your hand away from it. Get your hand away from it!

Sundance:
All right. Do you mean to tell me what you're you're going to do with my gun?

Aaron Donager:
I'm going to keep some idiots from having a lawful excuse to blow your head off.

Frisbee:
Do you think there's any chance of him getting off?

Taylor:
In a court of law, a man always has a chance.

Frisbee:
I got no doubts about him.

Taylor:
Neither have I.

Frisbee:
Good. Then we'll kill him before he gets to Denver.

Sundance:
I'll tell you one thing... I sure had you figured all wrong. The way you talk, I thought you were a smarter man.

Taylor:
And I thought you were a young man that owned a hotel - not an ex-gambler, convict and outlaw.

[to Frisbee and Taylor]

Masters:
And I'll tell you something else... it's going to be a whole lot easier without you two kill-happy bleedin' hearts to help me!

Sundance:
Well, you know what kind of woman Joanne was, the way she could bullyrag a man till he was half-crazy - teasin', tantilizin', baitin' the way she did.

Masters:
What's that got to do with Taylor.

Sundance:
Well, he had some mighty big plans for Joanne and the way I see it, those plans were about to slide down a gopher hole if she married Frisbee.

[Lassiter insists on leaving Opal's body in the Hotel de Paree's lobby]

Annette Deveraux:
Monsieur, in my hotel, even the dead should be entitled to their privacy.

Aaron Donager:
Lassiter, we know that you're implying that she was murdered. All right, who did it?

O.K. Lassiter:
Gurney Mills.

Sundance:
Wait a minute - do you know that for a fact?

O.K. Lassiter:
I found her on the trail hardly half a mile from Mills's cabin with a broken neck.

Sundance:
Half a mile? Now that don't sign Gurney's name to this thing.

O.K. Lassiter:
I'd have blasted him then and there, but he spotted me comin'. He may not have any brains, but he sure knows the taste of fear. He took off like a buck before I could close in. All the iron I had were the guns I was packin' on my hips. At that range, my sixguns are about as useless as a slingshot.

O.K. Lassiter:
You. You could locate him quick enough.

Sundance:
Suppose I could. What then?

O.K. Lassiter:
There ain't no law in Georgetown, only what a man makes for himself. I don't need no help passin' out the sentence for this crime; all I gotta do is find that defendant and for that I need help... lots of help!

O.K. Lassiter:
She was a woman. That's all the character reference she needs.

[Sundance tries to prevent the lynch mob from tracking Gurney]

O.K. Lassiter:
Sundance, unless you're prepared to buy into this hand, don't be tellin' me how to play it.

Annette Deveraux:
When people try to progress, someone must suffer.

Sundance:
If I gotta step over Gurney Mills's body, I don't know that it's worth it.

Gurney Mills:
I mighta known it would be you.

Sundance:
Hello, Gurney.

Gurney Mills:
It would take old Sundance or a sober Indian to track old Gurney down.

Sundance:
Yeah, well, that sober Indian is bringin' up the rear.

Sundance:
Gurney, why'd you want to go and run away for?

Gurney Mills:
Why did he take off after me? That O.K. Lassiter - I ain't never done nothin' to him.

Sundance:
You don't know what this is about for a fact?

Gurney Mills:
With a gun in his hand, that's how he comes; says he's gonna kill me. Now any man ain't gonna run away from that ain't got good sense.

Annette Deveraux:
It's lunacy. In your whole English vocabulary, there's no better word to describe you. Absolute lunacy.

Sundance:
I swear, Gurney, I don't believe you! The whole town's out looking for your hide and you sit there swillin' rotgut.

Gurney Mills:
I was just passin' the time. It gets lonesome.

Sundance:
Well, it gets a lot more lonesome at the end of a rope.

Sundance:
He's got a trial comin'.

O.K. Lassiter:
He's had his trial. All he's got comin' to him is a plot of dirt.

Sundance:
I said you can't have him.

O.K. Lassiter:
I don't figure Aaron and the lady is willing to get hurt trying to save him.

Sundance:
Well, maybe *I'm* willing.

O.K. Lassiter:
You better be sure, Sundance. Maybe don't stay maybe very long.

O.K. Lassiter:
This is crazy talk. Crazy!

Sundance:
If it's so crazy, Lassiter, go ahead and prove you're innocent.

O.K. Lassiter:
I can't do that! You know I can't. You're putting thoughts into people's minds. You think I'm guilty, at least give me a fair trial. Go on, I'm not afraid. I'll take my chances in any court in this land!

Sundance:
That's all I ever asked for Gurney.

[two men sneak out of the Hotel de Paree without paying their $11.50 bill]

Annette Deveraux:
That is the third time that has happened this month. What do people think - that we run this hotel for charity?

Monique Deveraux:
It looks that way.

Sundance:
Well, this time they're getting a run for their money.

Annette Deveraux:
Monsieur Sundance, how far will you chase them?

Sundance:
Eleven dollars and fifty cents worth.

Sundance:
How'd you get into law work?

Martin Wood:
I believe in it.
