Land of the Giants

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
[after checking for giant's pulse at wrist] He's dead. Both of them.

Dan Erickson:
It's funny, we're alive... and they're dead.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Ya see, sometimes it pays to be small. [Fitzhugh groans] Come on, let's get Fitzhugh back to the ship. Fitzhugh.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Let's make it to the hydrant.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
We'll never make it back to the ship with this. Can't we leave it here?

Capt. Steve Burton:
Leave it? After all the trouble we went through to get it? This wire's gonna be a lotta use to us.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
There's the rear of the market. No loading dock, but much food inside.

Mark Wilson:
Good. how do we get in?

Capt. Steve Burton:
Oh, no problem. Air intake.

[last lines]

Dan Erickson:
Steve?

Capt. Steve Burton:
Dan! Hey.

Capt. Steve Burton:
How are you? Okay?

Dan Erickson:
Yeah.

Mark Wilson:
She kept her word, didn't she?

Dan Erickson:
Yeah. She used a local anesthetic. I watched the whole thing. Where are the others?

Capt. Steve Burton:
They're back at the ship, waiting for their copilot.

Dan Erickson:
Well, get me home then. What are we waiting for?

Capt. Steve Burton:
Hey.

[first lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
[grunts] I must rest for a while. This bag is awfully heavy. Who would have ever dreamed that I, Alexander Fitzhugh... would stoop to rag picking?

Valerie Scott:
When those clothes you're wearing are full of holes, you'll be glad we collected these giant rags.

[last lines]

Barry Lockridge:
Mr. Fitzhugh, do you know who I am?

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Of course I know who you are, Barry. Don't bother me with such absurd inquiries at a time like this.

Barry Lockridge:
It sure is nice to have you back.

[last lines]

Dan Erickson:
What is this monstrosity?

Valerie Scott:
A camera. An old fashioned camera. I had one like it when I was a child.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Alright, who said giants don't have big hearts?

Mark Wilson:
Well, his heart may be in the right place, but this camera sure isn't.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Yeah, I know. He left us a box camera with no lens.

Mark Wilson:
It probably won't even take good pictures.

Capt. Steve Burton:
This is his way of saying thanks.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Let's go!

Dan Erickson:
Where?

Capt. Steve Burton:
To the park on the edge of the city. Fitzhugh and the others have hit Fort Knox. They've spotted some giants with cameras.

Mark Wilson:
Lenses!

Capt. Steve Burton:
Yep, lenses... to start the solar batteries. Come on.

[first lines]

Valerie Scott:
Come on. This way. Over here.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
[gunshots] Spindrift. Come in, Spindrift.

Dan Erickson:
Yes. We heard it. I was wondering if someone was shooting at *you*.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Looked like an escaped convict. And there were two guards chasing him. They were heading south, but there's no telling where they might wind up. Be careful.

Dan Erickson:
We'll keep our eyes open.

[last lines]

Dan Erickson:
We're all right now. Thank you.

Giant Convict:
Thank *you*.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Good luck.

[first lines]

Barry Lockridge:
More cookies.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
They seem to be doing this in *all* the houses today.

Barry Lockridge:
Yeah, and the whole town's decorated up. Must be a giant holiday.

[last lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Speaking of dinner.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Would you like to go with them, our little Thrombeldinbar?

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
No, thanks. [chuckles] A big batch of boiled roots will be fine. In fact, it sounds delicious.

[first lines]

Mark Wilson:
There it is.

Capt. Steve Burton:
It doesn't look much like a lab.

Dan Erickson:
Why would an optical scientist set up shop in a crummy area like this?

Mark Wilson:
I don't know. All I can tell you is the lenses are in there, and we need lenses for the solar batteries.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Okay.

[last lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Good thing that stupid giant believed your story about seeing the Earth through his glasses.

Capt. Steve Burton:
He wasn't that stupid. I *did* see Earth.

[first lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Barry [pauses to catch his breath] I'm afraid we're on a wild goose chase. It must have gone on.

Barry Lockridge:
I guess so, but I sure would have enjoyed seeing the circus again.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
You will, my boy, you will. Let's get back to camp.

[last lines]

Valerie Scott:
I never thought I'd be so happy to be back on giant ground.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Alright, let's get started. We've a long way back. I think our ship's *this* way.

Mark Wilson:
I just thought of something. That loose pipe on the calliope. We coulda used that for the ship's pressure system.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Do you wanna go back and get it? [both laugh] Come on.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
It came from over that way. [points]

Barry Lockridge:
Come on, Mr. Fitzhugh, we've gotta keep up with the others.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
You go ahead. I'll be along in a moment. There was no reason whatsoever to drag me out of a sound sleep because of some ridiculous noise.

Barry Lockridge:
But it could be something dangerous to us.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Nonsense, my boy. It's merely some natural phenomenon of the woods. Run along. Go ahead.

[last lines]

Mark Wilson:
Well, we're safe now, and so is the ship... for the time being.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
If that remark was directed to me, sir, I... I most emphatically refuse to be insulted.

Barry Lockridge:
Excuse me, sir, I seem to remember, you brought back some bread. Didn't you, sir?

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
I did indeed, boy. I did indeed. At considerable personal risk. I would be honored if you all joined me for breakfast. There's plenty for everyone.

Capt. Steve Burton:
I accept. [shakes Fitzhugh's hand]

Mark Wilson:
Don't mind if I do.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
[into radio microphone] Come in, London. Do you read me? [static] This is Flight Six-Twelve to London Control A. We've hit a solar turbulence area and it's jamming your radio band. Can you switch to an alternate range? Over. [more static - slams down microphone] Nothing.

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
From now on, that's just the way it's gonna be in this world.

[first lines]

Betty Hamilton:
All right. Lower away, fellas.

Valerie Scott:
Hey, that's great!

Dan Erickson:
Now that's what I call a birthday cake.

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Hey, Barry. You got a little visitor. [puts Chipper into Barry's arms] Hey, you're gonna be as good as new in a day or so.

Barry Lockridge:
Sure. You know, that doctor was a pretty good guy, for a giant.

Capt. Steve Burton:
That doctor was a pretty good guy.

[first lines]

Barry Lockridge:
Chipper, what's wrong?

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
He's pointing - at food, I hope.

Betty Hamilton:
No. I think he's trying to warn us. Maybe he smells giants.

Barry Lockridge:
There they are!

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
They've seen us. We're finished.

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Get back to the ship. Run! [explosion followed by raining debris] You okay?

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Well, I'm gonna sack out. See ya later.

Mark Wilson:
Good night... and Steve, thanks.

[first lines]

Dan Erickson:
This carrot's all I could find.

Valerie Scott:
Well, beggars can't be choosey, Dan. Let's chop it up and put it next to my stale bread crumbs and Fitzhugh's raspberry.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
[stirring from his nap] Carrot! Did I hear anybody say...? [reaches for the carrot]

Valerie Scott:
Fitzhugh, read the sign. [points to hand-lettered sign reading "HANDS OFF"] I made it for *you*.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
We're going to starve to death in this wretched wilderness.

[first lines]

Betty Hamilton:
Hey, this one's got *lots* of juice.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Let's see... More like glue than lubricant.

Mark Wilson:
You're right. Put that stuff in the guidance system and we'd *never* get off the ground.

Valerie Scott:
It has a nice odor. Maybe it's edible.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Eh! Careful. New area, strange plants, you know the rule.

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
Well, we've lost enough time for one day. We still have work to do.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Work? Until this moment I was certain those young upstarts made the wrong decision not staying with us. I'd be tempted to go with them... if I were ten years younger.

Barry Lockridge:
I like you just the way you are, Mr. Fitzhugh.

[first lines]

Dan Erickson:
[Whispers] Is it?

Capt. Steve Burton:
It's lead foil, all right. Hey, we really lucked out this time.

[last lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
This is indeed an honor. Thank you. Yes. Thank you very much. Of course, I will admit there have been a few anxious moments... when success seemed elusive. But that indomitable Fitzhugh spirit prevailed somehow, didn't it? Yes, indeed. Survival. That is the essential element. We'll find another source of fuel, Captain Burton. Don't you worry. I always felt there was hope for our situation.

Capt. Steve Burton:
That's very encouraging, Fitzhugh.

[first lines]

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Match!

Mark Wilson:
A good thing he didn't throw it into the outpost itself.

Capt. Steve Burton:
Just proves we have to have someone here day and night. Better bring our supplies in.

Alexander B. Fitzhugh:
Of course, it's almost time to eat.

[last lines]

Barry Lockridge:
[into tape recorder microphone] Log entry. Major Kagan died last night. He was a very brave man. He saved my life. Thanks to him, we gained valuable information which will help us return to Earth.

[first lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
I hope this earring's worth the trouble.

Mark Wilson:
It will be. You couldn't ask for a better clasp.

[last lines]

Capt. Steve Burton:
He was a great man... a giant even among giants. Let's go.
