Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

Deputy Billy Lordan:
Nevermind that, Slade. I'll blow your lever right through Deputy the front of your vest.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Deputy Lordan, will you please strike a match?

Deputy Billy Lordan:
[Does as so then laughs at mistake]

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Oh, that about my liver, Billy... That's not a nice way to talk.

Tess:
I heard what you told Martha. I'm a pretty good nurse too. Can I help?

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Yes you can. By going back to sleep. You know, that's the only way pretty little girls are going to grow up to be beautiful big girls.

Tess:
Aw, shucks! Nobody ever lets me be much help around here.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Tess... Just knowing that you're here, being able to see you every day when I'm not out of town is all the help I need.

Terry 'Tess' Wilkins:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Not this time, Tess.

Terry 'Tess' Wilkins:

Sheriff Max Chaffee:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

Sheriff Max Chaffee:
Wearing that star on your shirt doesn't allow for such sentiment, Mr. Buckhart. If the business hurts, take it off. Manhunting is a sorry game. Often a bitter one.

Johnny Q.:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
So was the devil before he was kicked downstairs.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Let me tell you what this man's easy work is really like. Easy money? The last three holdups Johnny Q was in, three of his men were killed. Any one of them could have been Johnny. The pay good?

Johnny Q.:
Better than the marshall's.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
The money that was taken in was $15,000. For that, Johnny's going to spend thirty years of his life in prison at Mescalero. That's around $5,000 a year. Even a Marshal makes more money than that, Johnny.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
You afraid of me?

Terry 'Tess' Wilkins:
Ain't afraid!

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Maybe it's because I wear my hear like this. Believe me. It's only because I love my father... out of difference to his race.

Terry 'Tess' Wilkins:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Well, that's out of difference to Harvard. That's a school. I went there to learn. I'm Sam Buckheart. You can call me Sam.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

Martha Commager:
Sam Buckheart, you stop plaguing her! Makes no more sense than the wind in the [?] thinking a little girl like that can feel easy with those old rags on her back.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
You're right. I'm a very stupid man.

Johnny:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

You maniac! He's got eight inches on you and 100 pounds. He'll stomp your chest in, gorge your face and come out of it with your eyeball in his fist!

Terry 'Tess' Wilkins:

Marshal Andy Morrison:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

Marshal Andy Morrison:

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:

Mr. Smith:

Tess:
You must be thinking very hard about something. You didn't even thank me!

I told Cully once to let the law handle this. But you guys can't seem to get it through your skulls! You want to be judge, jury, and hangman. If that's what you want, you don't belong in this territory. You belong in those caves!

Tess:
Tess: I told her I want to be an actress when I grow up. But now, I'm not sure. I think I'll grow up. And then I'll make up my mind.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart:
Sam: You'll have a lot of time to make up your mind while you're growing up, Tess. But because you're a woman, you'll always have the privilege of changing it.
