Michael:
[after seeing her sniff a line of cocaine] What kind of dinner is that?

Lorraine:
Expensive.

Joannie:
[Roslyn and Joannie lean against a ledge by the beach] Listen, Roslyn, I've been thinking.

Roslyn:
After what I just heard, you are not thinking.

Joannie:
Come on, come on. This is serious. This is our lives, not some dress rehearsal. [gets up and begins to pace] I'm tired of being some slave. I spent my whole life watching my mother cook and clean, never leave the house, never leave the valley. She died looking a hundred. She was only 45. She started out just like us - love in Hollywood High. Next thing you know, there's no money, no love, nothing. She raised all of us. So what? She broke her ass like a Mexican maid, and maybe every two weeks, she'd scrape together a few pennies for a hair set and wash, reading her Hollywood magazines for her high on Hollywood Boulevard next to the studios. [goes back over to Roslyn ans sits next to her] Big... deal.

Roslyn:
You're having an affair, aren't you?

Joannie:
We have to live before we die. We're kids playing mothers to kids. And that includes our so-called husbands.

Michael:
What a bunch of saps we are.

Joey:
Women are dumb. Dumber than corn.

Lorraine:
[sighs] Well, Michael, hardly any of my friends, probably none, were married at 18 and had a kid at 19. That's got to be hard.

Michael:
Well, you live with those sick beatniks in Venice. Most of my friends who grew up with me are married. That's how we all became men.

Lorraine:
We're not sick. We're just horny.

Joannie:
Did Michael ever get home last night?

Roslyn:

[watching television when the phone rings] Hello?

Joey:
You've got beautiful breasts, Roslyn. Beautiful.

The Greek:
[Joey has just convinced Roslyn to meet him at the diner] He's f***ing Gary Cooper. I mean, he's not f***ing Gary Cooper. He's Gary Cooper.

Roslyn:
It's a free country. It ain't Russia.

Brenda:
Oh, Joey... ease up. I'm not pregnant. I'd never bring another one of you bastards in this world.

Joey:

Michael:
No. I guess we're not going steady anymore, Roslyn.

Angel:

Tony:
Angel, I'm gonna get out I promise and we'll go away together just you and me. And we'll see the world, all those exotic places we talked about, huh?

Angel:
I'll wait for you forever and ever. And I'll sneak out and visit you whenever I can.

Tony:
I love you.

Angel:

Angel:
Thanks, Skinny.

Skinny:
That's alright, he didn't deserve you.

Angel:
[Angel kisses Skinny] I'll wait for you.

Skinny:
Alright.

Mrs. Norton:
[off screen] You're gonna love the new town, Angel. The new school is beautiful. You'll make new friends, you'll see.

Angel:
[off screen] I can't wait.

Tony:

Nixer:
[trying to convince Dude not to go to the rumble] I know you hate this town. I know you hate Teddy. I do, too. But I also know you love your music. So fight for what you love, not for what you hate.

Sarge:
[to Rookie] Hey, now you pay attention to somethin' here. These kids ain't the same anymore, and you know what's behind it all? Rock 'n' roll. That music is turnin' the kids into a bunch of sex hungry, beer drinkin', road racin' werewolves.

Nixer:
[Dude has just combed an enormous amount of grease into his hair in the bathroom of the rollerskating rink] Little dab'll do ya.

Dude:
Hell on wheels. [laughs]

Nixer:
[holds up a French fry on a toothpick] Looky here, J.T. From here [point at French fry] to eternity [points away from it] is the time before I was born. And from here [point to the other side of the French fry] to eternity [points away from it] is the time after I die. This... [points to the length of the French fry] is the only time I get... to do it.

J.T.:
[grabs the French fry] You ain't doing nothing. You're gonna spend the rest of your days in this little town... [dips French fry around in ketchup on Nixer's plate] and you're gonna die here... with one of my burgers in your hand. [eats the French fry] And that's it.

Teddy:
You burned my girlfriend's hair off, Dude. Now she's wearin' a f***in' wig. [pauses then yells] She looks like an old lady!

Dude:
I thought she was your old lady. [Nixer laughs] I'll tell you what, you bring her over here, take off that wig. Daddy'll give her a free spit shine. [spits then rings the bell on counter]

Dude:
[Nixer jumps into Dude's car after hitting on Wanda] Get the big part?

Nixer:
Hey, I nearly had her goin'.

Donna:
Are you sure she didn't have you going?

Nixer:
Only below the belly button.

Donna:
What?

Nixer:
Don't worry, I let it drain into my boots.

Donna:
Ecch!

Julie:
[to everyone in Teddy's car] Look at his girlfriend. [to Dude] What are you doin', Dude, smugglin' maids in from Mexico?

Donna:
Cayate, pendeja!

Julie:
Aw, speak Spanish to me. It turns me on.

Donna:
You're just jealous 'cause I speak two languages.

Julie:

Sarge:
[speaking to Rookie after they have just pulled Dude over] You gotta be careful with these punks today. They're all packin' switchblades. [to Dude] You carryin' a switchblade today, punk, huh? You packin' heat?

Dude:
Why don't you check up on your own son?

Sarge:
[to Teddy] You know, son, if excuses was worth a cent, you'd be a silver f***in' dollar.

Nixer:
[Dude pulls a bottle out of his refrigerator] Throw me one of those, Dude.

Dude:
You couldn't catch a crab in a whorehouse.

Dude:
[Sarge approaches Dude's car after pulling him over] What's all the hubbub, bub?

Donna:
You're very selfish, Dude. You don't give a damn about my dreams.

Dude:
Those are my dreams, Donna, not yours. Catch a ride with the tide. [starts engine and drives away]

Dude:
So whatcha ya gonna do?

Nixer:
Live out in the alleys with all the trash. People throw a lot of good things away.

Miles:
We harden our hearts, become callous. Only when we have to fight to stay human do we realize how precious it is.

Nixer:
Fight to stay human? Is that what it's all about?

Miles:
I don't know.

Nixer:
Say, I never seen you around here before. What'd you say your name was?

Miles:
I didn't say. I guess you could call me... Miles.

Nixer:
[offers his hand to shake] Well, thanks a lot, Miles... [Miles has disappeared]

Mr. Nicholson:
[over loud speaker at drive-in theater] Snack bar is closing in five minutes. Just five more minutes for those shrimp rolls. They're shrimply delicious! [takes a bite of one, chews, then grimaces]

Margo Doyle:
I mean, you should see this, Frank. They really dance wild on that show.

Susan:
Dad, it's rock and roll! It's got drums. It's got a beat. It's...

Margo Doyle:
[interrupting] African.

Susan:
What? Is Elvis Presley African?

Margo Doyle:
I mean, the way they dance is pretty wild. It's like some kind of foreplay! [Frank and Susan glare at Margo]

Susan:
I can't believe you said that! [pause] Mom, you're perverted!

Margo Doyle:
They have negroes on that show, Frank. They let negroes sing in front of all those white children.

Susan:
Hey, you have Ella Fitzgerald records.

Margo Doyle:
But I would never go see her in person.

Susan:
Agh!

E. Joyce Togar:
[behind the desk in the library, going through a pile of books, whispers] "Catcher in the Rye." Gone. [drops book into garbage] "The Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison. Gone. [drops book into garbage]

Margo Doyle:
[approaches desk, whispers] Hi, Joyce.

E. Joyce Togar:
[turns toward Margo, whispers] Hi, Margo. [turns back around, whispers] Norman Mailer. "The Naked and the Dead." And he's Jewish. Gone. [drops book into garbage]

Margo Doyle:
[whispers] What are you doing?

E. Joyce Togar:
[walks toward Margo, whispers] Books are a big influence on our children. It's up to us top channel that influence properly. [picks up the book Margo wants to check out of the library, gasps] Are you sure you want to read Fitzgerald? He was a terrible alcoholic, you know.

Margo Doyle:
[whispers] I had no idea.

E. Joyce Togar:
[walks back over to the garbage and drops the book in] Gone.

Cookie:
So where you gonna go?

Susan:
I don't know. [pause] Cookie, we're desperate. Get used to it.

Danny Klay:
