Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo, Where are You! was a pivotal television program created by Hanna-Barbera in 1969 that changed children's programming by juxtaposing a group of everyday kids and their goofy dog with truly frightening monsters and elaborate mysteries. After its initial success on CBS, Scooby-Doo moved to ABC and, in 1976, was paired with the new show Dynomutt--a show that built upon Scooby-Doo's success by extending a similar formula to the world of superheroes. In this complete Scooby-Doo Dynomutt series, 16 pairs of episodes follow the Scooby-Doo gang and Dynomutt and Blue Falcon as they solve crimes that involve everything from modern day burglars and skyscraper construction crews to a cave man seeking a college education and newly awakened Aztec ghosts. In the Scooby-Doo cartoons, a nervous Scooby-Doo and Shaggy inevitably manage to stumble upon crucial clues, the accident-prone Daphne always seems to endanger the entire group with her missteps, and the brainy Velma seems destined to solve every mystery with her infallible intellect. Scooby-Doo's cousin Scooby-Dum is introduced in this series in "The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul" and even Shaggy's uncle, the magician Zarko, makes an appearance in "Scared a Lot in Camelot." Harrowing chases and an overwhelming preoccupation with food and Scooby Snacks are, of course, a given. Dynomutt features the ever-malfunctioning mechanical Dog Wonder Dynomutt--a sidekick who, despite being endowed with an amazing array of technical gadgets, consistently impedes the Batman-like superhero Blue Falcon's efforts to save Big City from a ceaseless progression of criminals. Somehow the odd pair always manages to solve the crime and capture the bad guys, keeping Big City safe until the next villain's crime spree. Bonus features include the "Eerie Mystery of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt's History" that details the creation of both Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt and features interviews with television executive Fred Silverman, Scooby-Doo creative producer Iwao Takamoto, Dynomutt head writer Joe Ruby, and many others vital to the creation of the two cartoons. "In Their Own Words" features reminiscences by voice talents like Casey Kasem (Shaggy), Don Messick (Scooby-Doo), Gary Owens (Blue Falcon) and Frank Welker (Freddy and Dynomutt); and "The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Files" offers a collection of original still sketches from the Hanna-Barbera Vault. Daphne:
Some plan. That ghost pawed me for an hour and a half.

Fred:
Daph, look, it's not our fault that you always get kidnapped.

Daphne:
I do not always get kidnapped. I can't believe you'd say that to me.

Velma:
Oh, please. You come with your own ransom note. [Daphne steals her glasses] Hey, my glasses!

Daphne:
Who's helpless, now?

Velma:
[feels Fred's shoes and starts choking Fred] I'm gonna kill you, Daphne!

Fred:
[pushes Velma off] Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! [checks his ascot] Watch the ascot!

Shaggy:
Hey, you guys, look. I know I'm just the dude that carries the bags, but it seems to me we all play an important part in this group. [Daphne hands Velma's glasses and Velma snatches them back] I mean, we're just like a big, delicious banana split. Fred, you're the big banana. Daphne, you're the pastrami and bubble-gum-flavored ice cream, and Velma, you're the sweet-and-sour mustard sauce that goes on top.

Scooby:
Mmm-mmm!

Shaggy:
That sounds pretty good, doesn't it, Scoob?

Scooby:
Uh-huh.

Velma:
You know what, Shaggy. You've really put it into perspective for me.

Shaggy:
Thanks.

Velma:
I quit.

Shaggy:
No.

Daphne:
No way. You-you can't quit. I was gonna quit in, like, two seconds. And now everyone is gonna totally think I copied off the smart girl.

Fred:
Now, wait a minute. wait a minute. Maybe I quit. I do. Yeah, I quit!

Velma:
I'm outta here.

Daphne:
Good riddance.

Shaggy:
Don't... no! Don't go. Come on, you guys, don't do this. Please, don't go.

Scooby:
Do I quit?

Shaggy:
No, Scoob... friends don't quit. Well, it looks like it's just you and me for a while, buddy, old pal.

Scooby:
What now, Shaggy?

Shaggy:
I guess we'll all just do what we do best, Scoob.

[Scooby and Shaggy sit in the dining room of the Spooky Hotel]

Shaggy:
How groovy is this, man? Spooky Island finally came through with its all-you-can-eat deal! And there's nobody I'd rather gorge myself with than you, Scooby-Doo.

Scooby:
Aww. My best friend.

Shaggy:
You're my best friend, buddy. And you're beautiful like a beautiful piece of pizza. [Shaggy eats a piece of pizza with a hot pepper on it. He gulps it then spits it out as Scooby chuckles] Zoinks! These peppers are, like, hot!

Scooby:
Wimp.

Shaggy:
Wimp? Do you think you could handle it? Then why don't you put your mouth where your mouth is?

[Shaggy pushes a jar of hot peppers toward Scooby, who picks it up and sniffs the peppers]

Scooby:
OK.

[He gulps all of the peppers down his mouth, puts the jar down, and sighs]

Scooby:
Huh?

[Scooby twitches]

Shaggy:
Scooby, are you feeling OK?

[Scooby screams as smoke huffs out of his ears]

Scooby:
Oh, no!!!!

Waitress:
[as Scooby grabs a jug of water from her platter] Hey!

[Scooby gulps the water. He grabs a plate from a waiter's tray and fans his tongue with it. People start to watch as he then repeatedly bangs his head on it, leaving each dent from his face]

Shaggy:
Here you go, dude! [Shaggy grabs a bottle of ketchup. He pulls out Scooby's tongue from his mouth and squirts ketchup on it. As Shaggy lets his tongue go, Scooby sighs with relief] Like, how'd that taste, man?

Scooby:
Mmm! Delicious!

Shaggy:
Well, garcon, let's get two more! [Shaggy grabs two jars of hot peppers, one for him and one for Scooby. They take off the lids and clink them together] On the count of 3. (Ready?)

Both:
1… 2… 3!

[Just as they gulp down the peppers and scream, smoke wafts out of the eyes of the modeled tiki at the hotel entrance outside]
