[Murphy is alone in the prison shower with his son's murderer]

Napier:
I'm a sequestered prisoner. You're not supposed to be here. Guards! Officer Sewell? Hello?

Murphy:
You don't recognize me, do you?

Napier:
What? No, I-guards? Guards! Anybody!

Murphy:
We used to be neighbors.

[Napier realizes who Murphy is and tries to run]

Napier:
Guards! Open the goddamn door. Help, somebody! [turns back to Murphy] This is a violation of my rights. Who the hell do you think you are? When I talk to the warden, I'm...

Murphy:
No one's listening.

[after escaping from the crashed prison bus, Anne has cornered Murphy near a rocky crevasse]

Anne:
[gun drawn] That's far enough! Get your ass down on the ground, now! Hands where I can see 'em. Do it!

Murphy:
Take it easy. I'm not going anywhere.

Anne:
I said on the ground, now!

[Anne starts inching toward Murphy on a narrow cliff]

Murphy:
I was just looking for help.

Anne:
And you just happened to lose your cuffs in the process? Save the bullshit. [she loses her footing, but quickly rights herself]

Murphy:
This is stupid. I'll meet you down by the bus, okay? You're going to get yourself killed.

Anne:
Shut up! Keep your goddamn hands where I can seem them. [Anne slips, but catches herself, hanging onto the cliff face by her fingers] Sh*t! [to Murphy] Pull me up.

Murphy:
[moving towards her] Hang on.

Anne:
I'm slipping. Oh, god!

Murphy:
Don't let go! [he reaches out to grab her, but Anne falls into the crevasse] Sh*t!

[Murphy meets a man at the Devil's Pit observation deck]

Sater:
Pretty impressive, ain't it? You might not guess by looking at it, but this place used to be filled with all kinds of visitors. Moms and dads and little kids and... Yeah, it was a really nice place.

Murphy:
I'm sorry. You are - ?

Sater:
Name's JP and that sir is the Devil's Pit: four hundred ninety meters straight down to the blackest soul of the earth, the deepest limestone sinkhole north of...

Murphy:
Look, that's fascinating, but-Sorry... someone, some thing tried to kill me back there. You haven't seen anything, I mean strange wandering around here, have you?

Sater:
[turns back to the Devils Pit] First time visitor, huh?

Murphy:
Listen, if there's a quick way out of here, I'd really appreciate it if you'd just tell me...

Sater:
Way out? What good would that do? Sorry, we don't get too many visitors these days.

Murphy:
Right. Well, I'll be seeing you.

Sater:
If you head through the cavern, there's a train, can take you to Hillside. Boy, I'll tell ya... all the kids, they just love that little train.

Murphy:
How 'bout you show me?

Sater:
Sorry. Someplace I gotta be.

Murphy:
Thanks for the tip.

[after finding a newspaper article about how Sater's negligence caused the deaths of 8 children, Murphy finds him on the edge of an observation platform, about to jump]

Murphy:
What are you doing, JP?

Sater:
Aw, you know. Enjoying the view. You know, they say if you were to put the Empire State Building in here, it wouldn't even reach halfway to the top of this place.

Murphy:
Seems like a dangerous place to be sightseeing.

Sater:
You know, none of those things they said about me are true. The papers and stuff... people 'round town? My lawyers, they said it was just circumstantial evidence and whatnot. That's what I kept telling them.

Murphy:
Yeah, I read all about it.

Sater:
Those newspapermen are goddamn f***ing liars!

Murphy:
Relax, man. We're just talking here.

Sater:
What happened; that was an accident. I didn't mean to hurt nobody. I didn't murder nobody. Murder's a mortal sin. You go to hell for murder, ain't that right, Murphy? Surely your mama taught you 'bout what's right and what's wrong.

Murphy:
Those kids had parents that might disagree with you. The paper mentioned negligence...

Sater:
It was an accident!

Murphy:
You were completely hammered! There were witnesses!

Sater:
And how 'bout you, Murphy? Someone know all your dirty little secrets?

Murphy:
I never hurt anybody who didn't deserve it. And I sure as hell never hurt any kids. I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

Sater:
You call this living? Can you imagine what that's like, Murphy? Livin' all your life inside someone else's lie? Can you? Listen to us talk, as if anybody out there gives a damn when we're the ones who decide if we can live with what we've done.

Murphy:
Wait, what do you mean? Just wait a second!

Sater:
Be seeing you around, Murphy. [lets go of the railing and plunges to his death]

DJ Bobby Ricks:
[on the radio] This next one goes out to Murphy Pendleton, a lost soul on a stroll. You keep going, bro and your pal, DJ Ricks, will do the same. Playing the music y'all want to hear.

[Murphy comes upon the Devil's Pitstop, a dilapidated B&B and diner with an old truck parked out front]

Murphy:
Well, look at that... an old '52. Flathead V8, no doubt about it.

[Murphy prepares to break into the truck when a mailman approaches]

Howard:
Wicked old beast, ain't she?

Murphy:
What?

Howard:
I said she's a wicked old beast. Me, I'm partial to something with a little less rust, but to each his own.

Murphy:
Look, I don't want any trouble. Just point the way out of town and I'll keep right on going.

Howard:
Now who said anything about trouble? Just trying to be helpful, son. [extends his hand] Name's Howard, by the way.

Murphy:
Murphy.

Howard:
Heading to prison, are you, Murphy?

Murphy:
Just looking for a way out of town, that's all.

Howard:
That so? 'fraid all the roads are out. Every last one of them. Strangest thing.

[Murphy looks up and sees a mutilated figure in a wheelchair in the hotel's second floor window]

Murphy:
What the - ?

Howard:
Something wrong, son?

Murphy:
Did you see it? Up there in the window. [the window is now boarded up] Never mind.

Howard:
I suppose if you're really desperate, you could try the old sky tram. Course, it hasn't really been kept up since the accident.

Murphy:
I'll take my chances.

Howard:
That's the spirit. Well, this mail ain't gonna deliver itself. Good luck, Murphy. Hope you find whatever it is you're looking for. [walks off into the fog]

[Murphy is riding the mine train through the cave]

Devil's Pit Announcer:
Welcome aboard the Devil's Pit historic mine train with stops and Hillside Station and the Superstition Caverns. Please keep your hands and arms inside the train at all times and remain seated until the train comes to a full and complete stop. Failing to comply with safety regulations can result in severe injury or death. Enjoy your ride and please, no flash photography. Before it became the charming resort town we know and love today, Silent Hill was once a center of trade and commerce thanks to its rich seams of coal and iron ore. You are riding aboard a fully-restored mine train originally owned and operated by the Gillespie Coal and Iron Company, which first began extract ore from the Devil's Pit in 1860. This subterranean railroad was built to in order to haul men and equipment as far and 1200 meter below the surface, making it the deepest coal mine of its day. [as the lights flicker, Murphy sees horrifying images of miners coming for him in the dark] Long before the discovery of its rich coal seams, this labyrinth of limestone caves and grottos were used by the local indigenous tribes for religious ceremonies, particularly as a gateway to the spirit realm and for communicating with the dead. [as the ride continues, the cave degenerates it a nightmarish hellscape] We are now descending into the Superstition Caverns, an area of the cave steeped in mystery and folklore. According to local legend, in 1911, miners discovered mysterious symbols carved into the walls of a limestone grotto, leading to wild speculations about witchcraft and the occult. Soon after, a series of unfortunate accidents and reports of mysterious creatures forced the company to suspend mining operations along this seam. [a hideous monster jumps onto the train and attacks Murphy] Today, visitors to the Superstition Caverns occasionally reports seeing ghosts and other strange phenomenon... [the guide voice begins to break up as the train speeds through a monster infested nightmare until leading to a hideous, monstrous face stretched across the tracks]

Evil Face:
Did you enjoy the ride, Murphy? [the train suddenly shoots backward along the track]

DJ Bobby Ricks:
[on the radio, whispering] Anyone please? Can anybody hear this? I'm at the station in the old clock tower. Anyone, I'm waiting. Please.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
[on the radio] DJ Ricks back again with another dedication for our Mr. Popularity to day, Murphy Pendleton. The WLMN-FM phone has been ringing off the hook for old Murphy. All I can say, people, is that DJ Ricks is gonna have to meet this dude some day and find out what his secret is.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
[on the radio] Yo, Silent Hill, DJ Ricks on WLMN-FM here and... [whispers] I need help. They're watching me! Man, they're listening. I don't got a lot of time. Please, somebody help me!

DJ Bobby Ricks:
[on the radio] DJ Ricks playing the tunes you want to hear, year after year after year. We've been together a lone time, Silent Hill, and we ain't done with each other yet. You see, DJ Ricks got and important news flash for y'all, so perk up them ears... [whispers] I know a way out of town.

[Murphy opens a door and finds Howard waiting on the other side]

Murphy:
Jesus! You scared the hell out of me.

Howard:
Definitely not what I intended. Still in town, I see.

Murphy:
Just haven't found a way out yet.

Howard:
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that...

Murphy:
Yeah, then what?

Howard:
Well, let's just say I could finally put this damn bag down, for starters.

Murphy:
Man, cut the bullshit. What is this place?

Howard:
Can't say I understand the question. This is a busy town. Do you think these letters deliver themselves?

Murphy:
Whatever. Can you at least tell me where the radio station is? Someone's been calling in, making these dedications to me.

Howard:
Oh sure, that'd be the tall building in the center of town. Big ol' monster of a clock at the top. Shouldn't be hard to find. By the way, I ran into that lady friend of yours. What in the world did you do to get that young woman so riled up, anyway? She was fit to be tied.

Murphy:
Tell you the truth, I got no idea.

Howard:
Son, in my experience, when someone's that angry, it ain't a mistake... it's personal.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
That, my brothers and sisters, was another rock and roll classic coming to you courtesy of DJ Ricks on this fine afternoon. Weatherman says there's a storm coming our way to spoil the fun, so batten down the hatches and snuggle up under the blanket with the one you love, 'cause it's gonna be a rough ride. And speaking of rough rides, we got another dedication going out to my man with the plan, Murphy Pendleton. Somebody out there's got and eye on you, M.P., so watch your back and keep it on track! [puts on a record, then Murphy comes into the broadcasting booth] Hey man, come on in. Got a disc spinning right now, so you ain't interrupting nothing. Man, you look like you just say a ghost or something. You all right?

Murphy:
Not really, no.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Good to hear. So, what can DJ Bobby Ricks do for you, uh - ?

Murphy:
Murphy Pendleton.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Like I was saying. What can DJ Bobby Ricks do for you, Murphy? Got a track you want to play or - ?

Murphy:
I'm the guy you've been putting out the dedications for. I got the message; I came to find you.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
'Fraid you got the wrong man, Murphy, I don't know what you're talking about. But if there's a song you want to hear or a dedication you want to make, I could... [the song ends and Ricks turns to the mic] You're listening to the DJ Ricks show on WLMN-FM, where the tracks are tight and the sweet melodies flow on and on. It's always a perfect day with DJ Ricks, your on-air friend to the end. [puts on another song]

Murphy:
Look, man, I came here through hell and high water because you called me? Now cut the bullshit, 'cause I don't have time for this.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Chill out, man. You don't keep your voice down you're gonna get us both in trouble and you do not want that. [whispers] You don't know who might be listening, understand? Thank god someone finally heard me. I can't even tell you how long its been just spinning record after record after record hoping someone...

Murphy:
What the hell's going on here, Ricks? What is this place?

DJ Bobby Ricks:
No time to explain. If we're gonna get out of here, we gotta move fast! You getting this far tells me we just might have a chance of getting out alive.

Murphy:
What the plan?

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Right, listen... I've got this boat, she's moored down at the marina. She's fast, real fast. Problem is some motherf***er ransacked the studio and jacked the keys.

Murphy:
I'll hotwire it, no problem.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
That's not gonna work. This place, it does strange sh*t to reality, man. It's like there's rules you gotta follow, you know what I mean? [the booth phone rings and Ricks answers it] Bobby Ricks... uh-huh... yeah, sure. Who's it going out to? [pause] Uh, that's nice of you to think of me. Yeah, real nice. Thank you. [hangs up and turns to Murphy] They're coming.

Murphy:
Who?

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Doesn't matter. We gotta find those keys. They're on a silver chain that says "Freedom". You can't miss 'em.

[Suddenly, Anne bursts into the room with her gun drawn on Murphy]

Anne:
Pendleton!

Murphy:
Put the gun down, damn it. We might have a way out of here.

Anne:
[to Ricks] You, I need to use your phone.

DJ Bobby Ricks:
Sorry, lady. Calls come in, but don't go out. Just 'cause folks wanna be heard, it don't mean they're willing to listen. See for yourself.

[Anne picks up the receiver, but does not get a dialtone]

Anne:
What the hell's going on around here?

[Just then, several Screamer monsters smash through the booth's glass]
