You serve Galactus? And you think that I, who have toiled for him and fought with him and suffered beyond measure because of him, would want to save the Devourer of Worlds?

Nova:
As a matter of fact, I do.

The Silver Surfer:
We have travelled to virtually the other end of the universe. How did you find me at such a distance?

Nova:
I always find what I look for. Since I was a kid, anywhere I needed to be, bam! I've been there. That's why Galactus gave me your old job after just one interview.

Nova:
Surfer, the best job I could get without a college degree is going right down the tubes, and I am responsible!

The Silver Surfer:
Responsibility is not the issue now. A solution, is.

Gamora:
Every night in my dreams, I relive the destruction of my home planet by Galactus. Yet now I find his ship even more awesome than I remembered.

Nova:
[gasps] Silverado, there's this weird looking bald guy staring at us from the middle of nowhere!

The Silver Surfer:
The Watcher. His presence here shows that this is indeed a portentous event.

Pip de Troll:
[to the Silver Surfer] If you'da told me you were such a bad sleeper, I never would've booked this trip.

The Silver Surfer:
I have been apart of too much tragedy, Pip, to turn away from what may be another's plight.

Pip de Troll:
Just my luck: out on the town with an interstellar Samaritan.

Nebula:
Listen up, you low life, bottom of the barrel, dregs of pseudo-sentient life, we have been on more missions together than you can count - if you could count, and have I ever let you gobs down?

Mentor:
I'd say the rumors of the demise of the Watcher's civilization were greatly exaggerated.

Pip de Troll:
Ow, my ringing ears! Even my eyes feel numb.

Mentor:
In half a millenium of searching, Drax and I never expected to find... this.

The Silver Surfer:
Mentor, you must persist. We are all so near to satisfying our greatest desires.

Mentor:
After all Drax and I have gone through, nothing can stop me now!

The Silver Surfer:
Have I come this far, only to strike a wall of stone?

Pip de Troll:
Bye, Kili. Funny how I never knew how good I had it back home...

Gamora:
You look upset. I thought you might welcome something new and different, namely: defeat.

The Silver Surfer:
How can I ask you to forgive me, when I cannot forgive myself?

The Silver Surfer:
Still is it dificult for me to accept that I'm back on Zenn-La.

Shalla-Bal:
Do you want to test us, Norrin Radd? To make certain we are who we seem? I can tell you every moment you and I have spent together, since we were twelve and met at the Masters knee.

The Silver Surfer:
What have I done? Ego is not evil, merely misguided. I must help the planet live!

Thanos:
Tell me, my cold one, how can you fail to love me, to take me within your embrace, after I cause the ultimate chaos: all of creation to vanish?

Nova:
As they probably don't say on Zenn-La: Bingo!

Nova:
Silverado, I don't make mistakes. Well, there was that nose piercing incident...

The Silver Surfer:
Skrull fighting Skrull? Never did I believe I would be part of something like this!

The Silver Surfer:
How ironic that I, who have been raised with a devotion to harmony and peace, am being called upon to save the fiercest savages who ever roamed trough space. And yet, can any man turn his back on another, and still call himself civilized?

The Silver Surfer:
Nova, I will come back for you!

Nova:
I'll bet you say that to all the girls...

Eternity:
My sister is Infinity, the essence of space. I am eternity, made up of all time.

Infinity:
Together we are the universe personified.

Infinity:
We are the alpha and the omega, but although we see all possible outcomes, we donnot know which will inevitably occur.

Nova:
The last time you saw the Surfer, he saved your life. He's not your enemy!

Galactus:
When the great hunger is upon me, all creatures are enemies! And no one knows better than you, my Nova, how ravenous I now am.

Infinity:
You must hurry, Silver Surfer. Even Eternity has almost run out of time!

The Silver Surfer:
The universe needs me. I will not allow it to die!

Kree Computer:
Code Alpha. Kree-Lar system defences have been breached. The invasion force above the planet currently repelled by our deflectors.

Prime Minister Zarek:
Above the planet? Where was the warning?

Kree Computer:
This is the warning. The entire invasion has consumed merely 27 seconds so far.

Prime Minister Zarek:
What kind of invaders can move with such speed?

Kree Computer:
Not invaders, invader: the Silver Surfer.

Adam Warlock:
Which side are you on, Kree or freedom?

The Silver Surfer:
I am the Silver Surfer and I am not here to fight. This is not my battle.

Adam Warlock:
Look around you, doesn't it make your blood pound? They are all our battles!

The Supreme Intelligence:
Ah, Adam Warlock. Long have we wondered if the rumors of your existence were true. Had we allowed them to become public, you would be an interstellar legend now.

Adam Warlock:
I would settle for being your nightmare.

Adam Warlock:
[to the Silver Surfer] It's ironic, isn't it? You learned nothing that you wanted from the Kree, while I have learned too much.

Watcher Prime:
Behold, the universe. Incredibly complex, yet wonderfully simple. It encompasses all of creation, while racing towards its ultimate end. Within this maelstrom of growth and destruction lies millions of galaxies, billions of stars and planets.

Watcher Prime:
I am the Watcher. It is my task to note all events of significance in this part of the cosmos. Only to note them, never to interfere. This task brings me great joy, and great sorrow.

Watcher Prime:
Galactus comes with a single purpose: to feed on your world. He himself is neither good nor evil. Whether or not your survive is of no significance to him. You on Zenn-La have the power to reach into the hearts and minds of others. Your ways have changed the destinies of whole galaxies. Now, you must change your own.

Master of Zen-La:
Mighty Galactus, hear my words. For countless centuries Zenn-La has taught the civilizations of the galaxy harmony, balance, and peace. We ask nothing for ourselves. But you must know that if you destroy us you condemn the entire universe as well.

Norrin Radd:
Watcher! If this world means so much to you, show yourself! I know you are there!

Watcher Prime:
I feel great pity and sorrow for you all.

Norrin Radd:
Pity? Sorrow? You dare! What kind of monster are you to... to claim sorrow but refuse to help those in need? You have already broken your vow. Now you, who have witnessed the depredations of Galactus for eons, must tell us more! You WILL tell us more!

Watcher Prime:
For what purpose? Galactus cannot be swayed.

Norrin Radd:
You must know something that can save our world. Tell me his secret. NOW!

Norrin Radd:
Galactus, I am Norrin Radd of the planet Zenn-La. I am not here to beg nor ask you for your mercy. Instead I've come to make you an offer. I can help you. I can give you the one thing that even the great Galactus needs. [Galactus laughs]

Norrin Radd:
Galactus, are you listening to me?

Galactus:
Your presumptuousness amuses me, Norrin Radd of Zenn-La. You have set yourself a lofty goal. How can one such as you help one such as I? I, who needs nothing, who desires nothing!

Norrin Radd:
Great Galactus, do you not desire to survive?

Galactus:
[laughs] The tiny mite grows even bolder! Tell me, what is it Galactus needs to survive?

Norrin Radd:
Planets! An endless supply of planets to consume! Your constant search depletes you. And that date is coming when you will not find your next meal in time. It need not be so. Spare Zenn-La and I will serve you as a net serves a fisherman. Cast me out into the sea of space, and I will find the worlds you need!

Galactus:
I am Galactus. My powers are limitless. In all the universe there is nothing I cannot do. Ah, yet I grow so weary of the endless search...

Watcher Prime:
Behold the universe: incredibly complex, yet wonderfully simple. Tragedy becomes triumph. And triumph turns tragic once more.

The Silver Surfer:
Master, I am ready to serve.

Galactus:
Then go, my Silver Surfer. The space waves beckon. And the great hunger is upon me once more.

The Silver Surfer:
To me, my board!

The Silver Surfer:
[regards Zenn-La] What of this planet, Master?

Galactus:
I gave a promise once to an honorable man. That planet is not for such as we.

Watcher Prime:
Once, on a planet of wisdom known as Zenn-La, there lived a man of nobility and courage. Now a new being lives in his stead. Behold, the Silver Surfer!

Watcher Prime:
Master of Zenn-La, I am breaking my most sacred vow. For millennia, the teachings of Zenn-La have been a beacon of light and sanity in a universe darkened by chaos and strife. Now, in the hope that this light not be extinguished I bring you the most dire of warnings. Know, all of you, that the being called Galactus is approaching!

Watcher Prime:
This sector alone holds countless civilizations. Sentient life, so varied that no one race would have been able to imagine the others. Throughout the ages these civilizations have encountered each other time and time again, and demeaned their cultures and beliefs. Two societies, however - the Kree, a race so old that is is the basic stock which evolved all others, and the Skrull, avaricious upstart that live only to serve their hive mother - have dedicated themselves to the subjugation of all others. For countless eons they have battled each other for supremacy, with neither side able to gain a discernible advantage. Now a new power has entered the sector. A power so great it makes everything else pale... Galactus, an immutable force as old as time. Galactus possesses an incalculable knowledge and strength like a shark gliding through an intergalactic sea. Galactus uses his knowledge for only one thing: to find planets whose cores contain the nutrients that will enable him to survive. So great are his needs that he cares not for any consequence save his own nourishment. And after he is fed, the shark that he is, all Galactus can do is move on.

Galactus:
To perform your task as my herald, Norrin Radd, you must become far more than merely a man. I bestow upon you a portion of my own Power Cosmic. You shall absorb boundless strength from the cosmos itself. Needing no food to eat. No water to drink. No air to breathe. You shall be able to transmute the elements. And to heal others as well as yourself. Cosmic bolts of awesome power shall be yours to hurl. And neither the frigid cold of the deepest space nor the blazing heat of the brightest star shall harm your shielded body. Most importantly, I shall give you the means to travel faster than the fastest starship. So you may soar to the ends of the universe and beyond. Norrin Radd exists no more. You are newborn my herald. Even your mind is a new page on which I shall write. Arise!

[Norrin examines a spacecraft]

Shalla-Bal:
Norrin Radd, I knew I would find you here.

Norrin Radd:
Think of the courage our ancestors must have had, Shalla-Bal, to leave Zenn-La and soar out into the unknown.

Shalla-Bal:
We have had no need for space travel since the enlightenment. We know that the path to peace and harmony lies within our own souls. Beings from all over the universe come here to learn our ways.

Norrin Radd:
And yet I have neither felt peace or harmony within me. Instead, I am driven by dreams of other places.

Shalla-Bal:
But your place is here. There are even those who say that you will become the next Master.

Norrin Radd:
How can I be Master of Zenn-La when I cannot even be master over myself?

Shalla-Bal:
I believe in you, my love. Whatever happens, I will be at your side.

Master of Zen-La:
Allow me to present our newest students, Captain Kalek of the Kree Empire and Commander Husserl of the Skrull Confederation.

Kalek:
My crew and I are honored to be accepted into your academy, Master.

Husserl:
My crew and I are more honored. Especially since we were accepted first!

Norrin Radd:
If these are the peaceful ones I would hate to see the warlike members of their kind.

Shalla-Bal:
I though Galactus a myth!

Norrin Radd:
And I hoped him one.

Kalek:
It seems it is our destiny to fight after all. We will blast Galactus right out of the sky.

Husserl:
My crew and I will strike the fateful blow.

Norrin Radd:
Unbelievable. The Kree and the Skrull side by side.

Shalla-Bal:
I pray that it will not always take the destruction of a planet to bring them together.

Kalek:
Husserl, you know what to do. May you bring honor to the Skrull Mother.

Husserl:
And may you bring victory to the Kree Supremor.

Husserl:
What manner of being can create so huge a vessel?

Pilot:
Captain, this doesn't have to be our fight...

Husserl:
If Galactus isn't stopped now, we will surely awaken to find him feeding on OUR nest!

Shalla-Bal:
You have saved us, Norrin Radd. But the price...

Norrin Radd:
It must be paid. And only I, of all those people on this world, can pay it.

Shalla-Bal:
But how can anyone of Zenn-La serve Galactus? It is against all we stand for.

Norrin Radd:
I know what we stand for.

Shalla-Bal:
Then how can you help him destroy thousands of worlds?

Norrin Radd:
You do not understand. I will guide him only to planets whose cores burst with energy yet which have no intelligent life. I will save countless civilizations. This is the true philosophy of Zenn-La.

Shalla-Bal:
This is what you have longed for all your life. It truly is your chance to explore the stars. Use it well, my love. Use it wisely.

Norrin Radd:
I love you.

Shalla-Bal:
Galactus, take me with him. Take me with him!

Norrin Radd:
I will never forget you, Shalla-Bal.

Shalla-Bal:
NORRIN!

Galactus:
I am waiting.

Norrin Radd:
Just another moment. Please...

Galactus:
It is time.

Master of Zen-La:
Flee, while you still have your ships. Take my disciples with you.

Norrin Radd:
Master, we cannot leave you!

Master of Zen-La:
We all belong to Zenn-La. If I fail, it will be your task to spread our message. Norrin Radd, I know you have always wanted to go.

Norrin Radd:
But not like this, Master. Not like this!

[first lines]

The Silver Surfer:
Space, my home. Was ever a man as lucky as I? Who, but the Silver Surfer, can soar the cosmic currents and be one with the many wonders of the galaxies. And yet even now I feel confused and uncertain. Where do I come from? Why do I serve?

The Silver Surfer:
Do they not understand? Nothing can stand in my way. These beings know that it is impossible for them to prevail. And yet they fight on. Their struggle moves me in a way I do not understand... Yet I cannot allow it to sway me.

The Silver Surfer:
Time after time I have born witness to wanderers forced from their homes. Yet never does the sight cease to be a bitter one.

The Silver Surfer:
Master.

Galactus:
My herald. Never have I fed as well as I have since you joined me.

The Silver Surfer:
Master? Often have I wondered, when did I join you? And why?

Galactus:
[chuckles] Always are you questioning. Always restless. And to think, once I foolishly thought that unlike myself lesser beings could be content.

The Silver Surfer:
Do I amuse you, mighty Galactus?

Galactus:
It is of no consequence. All that must concern you is that I obtain the energy I need. Now go my Silver Surfer. Soon, this planet will be drained, and the great hunger will be upon me once more!

Thanos:
The Silver Surfer, beloved. I could crush him with a gesture. But if anyone knows Galactus' secrets it is he. I must find a way to trap him! So that I can rip that knowledge from his brain!... Yes, my love. I know exactly what is necessary. And I have the perfect pawn to put into play.

Thanos:
Intriguing development, my love. Do you not agree? The Silver Surfer is nowhere near as powerful without his board. It is as though they are one. I wonder what other weaknesses our reluctant ally would expose.

The Silver Surfer:
These growth cycles should take eons, not moments to occur. Truly this is a world of impossibilities. But my speculations are pointless. Soon, this world will be no more...

Galactus:
My herald. This world is no more. Its energies absorbed. Never before have you failed to summon me to a new planet by the time I was finished with the old. Now you are strangely silent. Is it possible that you have gone back on your word? [pause]

Galactus:
The Silver Surfer, I hunger.

Thanos:
My darling, success is just a heartbeat away. Soon the chains to bind the great Galactus will be yours to lock into place...

The Silver Surfer:
In all my service with Galactus never have I beheld such as this...

Ego the Living Planet:
I am Ego, the living planet. Stay with me, Silver Surfer, and I will give you all that you desire.

The Silver Surfer:
Indeed. You are a unique and powerful being. But I cannot allow even you to prevail over my master's needs.

Ego the Living Planet:
Silver Surfer, I am in your debt. The nova that brought your here was caused by that being. If I had not aided in your entrapment I would have perished like that star.

The Silver Surfer:
Are you not afraid you will still perish when I summon Galactus?

Ego the Living Planet:
I am not without resources, as you have seen. And with Thanos gone, my mobility has returned. [moves off]

Thanos:
My lady, I have failed you. I am not worthy, I know. But please, do not turn away from me now. Let me right this grievous wrong. I will give you the universe, I swear! And then, my beloved Lady Chaos, together we shall destroy it!

The Silver Surfer:
Thanos. I will remember the name of one who is so evil, yet has given me so much to think about...

The Silver Surfer:
So many memories. Yet as swiftly as they appear they did vanish into their prison inside my own mind. I must find Galactus. For now I know that my master has stolen my past, my life, my love. Galactus, there will be reckoning! I will regain my soul!

[last lines]

The Silver Surfer:
GALACTUS!

Galactus:
You have failed me, my herald. But I will let it go, this time. For now I am well pleased. I have found a world with more life energy than any I have encountered before. [laughs]

Thanos:
Another flawless plan. You are indeed the mistress of strategy.

Thanos:
Ah, what beauty. What majesty. Does it not touch your heart, my love, to witness such ruinous grandeur?... You are absolutely correct. Galactus is the very definition of destruction... Yes, my dear. I quite agree. Control his power and the entire Universe will fall beneath our heel!

The Silver Surfer:
Where... where have you taken me?

Thanos:
We have entered your mind. It... it is not as I expected. Youur whole life should be here. Your accomplishments, fears, failures! Instead there is emptiness, darkness, a void.

The Silver Surfer:
My life is serving Galactus. I am nothing else.

Thanos:
Serving Galactus? I have no interest in how to serve anyone! I want the secret of controlling your master!

The Silver Surfer:
[laughs] Do you not understand? Galactus can never be controlled. If ever being, if ever power, came together for that very purpose still would they fail!

Thanos:
He cannot be invincible. He is not a god. The answer is here! It must be here!

Galactus:
This planet dies so that I may live. A course of events that has occurred a billion times before.

The Silver Surfer:
But it has been wrong a billion times before. This place reminds me of Zenn-La, and given the time it too might become such a refuge. But even if it did not, still would its life be sacrosanct. I MUST MAKE MY STAND!

Galactus:
Your stand will destroy you.

The Silver Surfer:
Better to perish for what I believe in, than endure forever as a traitor to life!

Galactus:
Then so be it!

The Silver Surfer:
Galactus, the time has come for us to talk.

Galactus:
There is no need, my herald. I have found a planet with more life energy that I ever dared imagine. And for that reason I forgive your failure to perform your duties. For now.

The Silver Surfer:
But I do not forgive you!

Galactus:
Those are audacious words, Silver Surfer.

The Silver Surfer:
I want my life back! I demand my soul! I pledged that I would serve you, not give up my past!

Galactus:
We would discuss this another time, my Silver Surfer. For now it is your duty - no, your obligation to seek out my next source of energy!

The Silver Surfer:
It is YOUR obligation to return my memories. For now and ever more!

Galactus:
I said GO!

The Silver Surfer:
Galactus brushed me away with as much thought as I might give a speck of dust!

The Silver Surfer:
I... I seem to be making a habit of falling out of this world's sky.

Frankie Raye:
Ever consider getting into a Twelve Step program for that?

The Silver Surfer:
I used my Power Cosmic to heal you.

Frankie Raye:
Not too shabby. How about giving some of that action to the rest of the planet?

The Silver Surfer:
Now that I know who I was and who I am, that is exactly what I shall do!

The Silver Surfer:
Galactus, our bargain is over. You have deceived me and I serve you no more. I will stop your carnage, even if it costs me my life!

The Silver Surfer:
GALACTUS! When I agreed to become your herald it was to lead you away from sentient beings. This world is populated by men, by women who think, feel, who... who dream!

The Silver Surfer:
This planet has not the time for me to argue with one who will not even deign to answer. Instead, I will have to apply the Power Cosmic more directly. Just as the power of Galactus created these engines of destruction, the power he has given me shall destroy them!

Amber:
You did it. If there's one thing you've always been good at it's being at the right place at the right time.

Frankie Raye:
The way I see it, the right place now is wherever those alien attackers are. I've gotta fight!

Galactus:
Audacity is one thing, my Silver Surfer. But rebellion is quite another. You have accomplished something that no force in the universe ever has before.

The Silver Surfer:
What is that?

Galactus:
You have forced me to interrupt my repast. I do not know whether to congratulate you for this unique deed, or vaporize you.

The Silver Surfer:
Do what you will, my former master. But I cannot allow you to kill any more!'

Galactus:
[laughs] Former master? FORMER, you say? Can it be that I have been wrong about you, Silver Surfer? You are neither audacious nor rebellious, but simply mad!

The Silver Surfer:
Perhaps I was to believe that I could make any agreement with you! But now I know the truth!

Galactus:
And because of that you would attempt to destroy your creator - permit no mistake about it, your creator I am! I took away your memories because it was necessary. I knew that with them you would never be able to serve me.

The Silver Surfer:
Galactus, can you not understand? I no longer care about what you've done to me. It's what you are doing to this world!

Frankie Raye:
Frankie girl, what have you gotten yourself into now? One minute I'm dodging a tidal wave, and the next I'm in the absolute middle of nowhere... Or am I? Let's see how that "right place in the right time" really holds up...

Frankie Raye:
Ah man, talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire...

Galactus:
You are from the planet below. How did you come to be here?

Frankie Raye:
Guess it must just be my lucky day!

Galactus:
You have a rare gene, triggered by the Power Cosmic itself; it enables you to unerringly find whatever you seek. I do not know what a frying pan is. However, I can extend to you the gift of fire...

Uatu the Watcher:
On a planet known as Earth there lived a young woman named Frankie Raye. Now she has a new form and a new name: Nova, herald of Galactus. But what of the original herald? The Silver Surfer? A free man, noble and pure, streaks to his new life.

The Silver Surfer:
Zenn-La, the most beautiful place in the universe. Soon I will be in the loving arms of Shalla-Bal...

The Silver Surfer:
What has happened? Where is Zenn-La?

Galactus:
Norrin Radd, I said that you could leave me. And I have kept my word. But never did I say you could return to Zenn-La.

The Silver Surfer:
Watcher! Watcher, where is my world? Where is my home? Tell me, please.

Watcher Prime:
I cannot tell you. So mighty is Galactus that he has moved Zenn-La to a place where it is hidden, even from me. Truly I am sorry.

The Silver Surfer:
I will find you, Shalla-Bal! No matter how long or dangerous the way, no matter what prevail I must endure! Never will I stop searching! I swear by our love!

Watcher Prime:
I am the Watcher. It is my task to note all events of significance in this part of the cosmos. This task brings me great joy, and great sorrow.

Watcher Prime:
For millennia, the peaceful teachings of the world of Zenn-La have brought the universe wisdom and hope. Attempting to ease his eternal hunger for energy, the unvanquishable being known as Galactus struck at Zenn-La. The destruction of the planet appeared immanent. Then Norrin Radd, a brilliant young student, made a fateful covenant with the despoiler. In return for the sparing of Zenn-La Norrin Radd gave up his home and his love to become Galactus' herald and scout as the Silver Surfer. He soared to the ends of the universe finding planets for his master to devour. With his memories hidden from him the Silver Surfer never understood why he was so moved by the plight of Galactus' victims until he was forced into mental battle with the tyrant Thanos, an entity dedicated to universal annihilation. During the conflict the mental barrier erected by Galactus was breached and the Silver Surfer's awareness of his past returned only to be lost once more leaving an even greater sense of loneliness and betrayal. As the Silver Surfer confronts his master about his treachery, it is my duty to observe all that occurs here. For I am the Watcher. And this is the sight of Galactus' latest depredation, a small blue and green world its inhabitants call Earth.

Frankie Raye:
Just my luck: a genuine hunk of a space alien comes to visit, and it turns out he wants to blow us to smithereens.

Amber:
These special bullitans are knocking my favorite shock jock right off the air!

Frankie Raye:
The whole world's falling apart and you're worried about the Top Forty?

The Silver Surfer:
I live. And... and so does the planet. You have abandoned it. Why?

Galactus:
Since the dawn of time the purpose of my life has been my continued survival. To that end have I devoted all my great power. But you, Silver Surfer, in your willingness to pay the ultimate price for the well-being of others you do not even know and demonstrated a strength and courage that even the great Galactus shall never possess. Norrin Radd, we can trust each other no more. Consider this world a parting gift.

The Silver Surfer:
You will release me? I can go?

Galactus:
You must go. And with you take the Power Cosmic. Not as my blessing, but as my curse. The power shall be like a brand, marking its bearer for all time. Let us see those for whom the Silver Surfer has been so willing to sacrifice... can never overcome their fear and hatred of you!

The Silver Surfer:
Mighty Galactus, I shall prove you wrong about the people of the universe...

Galactus:
GO! You are condemned!

Galactus:
My Herald, the great hunger is upon me. Where is the next world upon which I can feed?

The Silver Surfer:
It is a basic precept of Zenn-La that even with the highest technology, simplicity is best.

Nova:
The Hubble Telescope's got a pretty good view, but now I know the meaning of awesome!

Pip the Troll:
Easy pal, you took a tailbreakin' fall. Between us, I was kinda hopin' that if anything came falling out of the sky, it'd be rain.

Master of Zen-La:
The way of the universe is acceptance, not denial.
