The Catered Affair

Agnes Hurley:
You're going to have a big wedding whether you like it or not! And if you don't like it, you don't have to come!

Bridge Attendant:
Morning, Tom! How's the taxi business?

Tom Hurley:
How's the bridge business?

Bridge Attendant:
One more day like this, I'll own the bridge!

Agnes Hurley:
I don't know what to say to your pa. Go make him some breakfast, maybe it'll make him more peaceful.

Agnes Hurley:
Mad? How could I be mad at what's been my whole life? and will be to the end?

Agnes Hurley:
Your pa and me was never alone together since the day after we was married.

Agnes Hurley:
The only reason he married me was that my father, God rest his soul, met him one day at the union hall. They was both house painters, ya know. And he said, "Hurley, I'll give ya $300 if you'll marry my daughter." And he said he would, and he did.

Jane Hurley:
I never heard that story, Ma.

Agnes Hurley:
Oh, sure, sure. 'Course I'm exaggeratin' a little, but... but that's the gist of it.

Tom Hurley:
Long time we've been married.

Agnes Hurley:
Too long? Too long a time?

Tom Hurley:
To know someone?... It's like a day, Aggie.
