The Muppet Christmas Carol

The Muppet Christmas Carol

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 American musical fantasy comedy-drama film produced by Jim Henson Productions and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Adapted from Charles Dickens's 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, it is the fourth theatrical film to feature the Muppets, and the first to be produced following the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson in 1990. The film was directed by Brian Henson in his directorial debut from a screenplay by Jerry Juhl, and stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge and Steve Martin as Insolent Waiter, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Frank Oz portraying various roles, including Gonzo narrating the film as Dickens and Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit. Although artistic license is taken to suit the aesthetic of the Muppets, The Muppet Christmas Carol otherwise follows Dickens's original story closely. The film cameo characters appears voices of Scott Weinger as Aladdin. The Muppet Christmas Carol was released on December 11, 1992, to modest box office success and mostly positive reviews. As well as Jim Henson, the film is dedicated to fellow puppeteer and Muppet performer Richard Hunt, who died eleven months before its release.
