The Persuaders!

The Persuaders!

The Persuaders! is an action/adventure/comedy series starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore, produced by ITC Entertainment, and initially broadcast on ITV and ABC in 1971. The show has been called "the last major entry in the cycle of adventure series that began 11 years earlier with Danger Man in 1960", as well as "the most ambitious and most expensive of Sir Lew Grade's international action adventure series". The Persuaders! was filmed in Britain, France, and Italy between May 1970 and June 1971. The series is also remembered for its distinctive, synth-laden theme music, by John Barry. Despite its focus on the British and American markets, the show became more successful in other international markets. It won its highest awards in Australia and Spain, and Roger Moore and Tony Curtis were decorated in Germany and France for their acting. It persists in the memory of European film-makers and audiences, having been casually referenced in 21st-century productions made in Sweden, France, Britain, and Germany. The show used many of the resources of Moore's previous show, The Saint. These included locations and the idea of reusing many of the visible vehicles from episode to episode.

Maurice Devigne:
Bonjour, monsieur.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Guten Tag. Ve are intersted in your coins.

Maurice Devigne:
Ah, coins. And what sort of coins have you in mind, monsieur?

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Ze best. Ve are interested only in ze best. Mein late father, General von Graumann, would always say: Lest zen ze best is not best enough. Vell, does not translate vell. Ze coins, bitte.

Maurice Devigne:
Well, here, we have a varied selection from these superb gold ones, several in almost mint condition to some extremly rare silver specimens and we ourselves mint a very fine bronze reproduction of the popular 100 franc gold Napoleon III.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Like zis one, ja?

Maurice Devigne:
Ah yes, a particularly fine specimen.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Ja, but ve ask ourselves, is it genuine or is it counterfeit?

Maurice Devigne:
Pardon, monsieur?

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Oh, ve understand zat zere are many good copies around, nicht wahr?

Maurice Devigne:
Zere are indeed, you are quite correct, monsieur.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Oh, ve von Graumanns always try to be correct. Mein father, the General would say: Any Dummkopf can be incorrect, but not to be a Dummkopf is more correct! Hahaha! Is good, ja? Yes, it's even better in Jerman. Now bitte, you will tell me ze correctness of zis coin?

Maurice Devigne:
Well, it, it will be a personal opinion only.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Yes, exactly vat ve wish.

Maurice Devigne:
Yes, the work is good, but it is a copy, it is not genuine.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
So, so. But ze value?

Maurice Devigne:
It, it is a counterfeit piece.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Jawoll! But ze metal is not counterfeit, it is genuine.

Maurice Devigne:
Well, in that case...

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Herr Devigne, I am in your trade. Like you I represent big interests.

Maurice Devigne:
I see.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Good. So ve vill, ve vill continue ze discussion in your office. It will afford more privacy, jawoll?

Maurice Devigne:
Please.

Lord Brett Sinclair:
Gesundheit.
