Police Officer:
A good lickin' never hurt anybody, boy. My old man used to give me enough of 'em when I was a kid. Hey, still in all, I never thought of callin' the cops when he did.

Joe Kellerson:
Hello, Tommy. Now you be quiet if you don't wanna get hurt. What's the matter, have I ever done anything to you?

Tommy Woodry:
[shakes his head]

Joe Kellerson:
What are you runnin' around tellin' stories for?

Tommy Woodry:
They're not stories!

Joe Kellerson:
No? Well, maybe if you tell me what they are, I can explain. I don't want you thinkin' these terrible things. What is it you think I did?

Tommy Woodry:
You know what you did!

Joe Kellerson:
But I don't. I don't know what you're talkin' about. Now, c'mon, Tommy, let's be fair. You can't accuse me of something and not tell me what it is.

Tommy Woodry:
You killed somebody!

Joe Kellerson:
Oh, come on, Tommy. You don't really believe that, do ya?

Tommy Woodry:
I was on the fire escape! I saw ya!

Joe Kellerson:
You're sure you didn't imagine it?

Tommy Woodry:
No! I saw everything! The scissors and the man!

Joe Kellerson:
Well, then, Tommy, if you really believe that, I think there's only one thing to do: go to the police and tell them about it. You haven't been police already, have you?

Tommy Woodry:
No.

Joe Kellerson:
Alright, then, I'll tell you what we'll do: we'll go down to the police station right now. I don't want you thinkin' these things about me. We wanna be friends. Maybe the police'll convince you, hmm?

Tommy Woodry:
Pop? If you see a thing with your own eyes, it can't be a dream, can it?

Mr. Ed Woodry:
You don't want me ever to be ashamed of you, do you?

Tommy Woodry:
No pop.

Mr. Ed Woodry:
Well don't you see that might happen if you keep this up? People gonna say that Ed Woodry's son doesn't know the difference between what's real and what isn't. Why, they might even say that you're a liar.

[last lines]

Tommy Woodry:
[as Tommy goes home in a police car] And that's all the truth.

policeman:
That was some jump, son!

Tommy Woodry:
I'm never gonna be a fireman. I don't like jumpin' in those nets.

Mr. Ed Woodry:
I'm proud of you, Tommy, and from now on I'll believe you.

Tommy Woodry:
I'm glad, Pop. From now on I promise I'll never make up another story.

Mrs. Mary Woodry:
That'll make us all happy.

Mr. Ed Woodry:
I'll bet when we all get down to the station all the guys are going to point to me and say ther goes Tommy Woodry's father. [Tommy smiles and his father chuckles over a shot of his son's beaming face]
