I do think athletics is one of the last bastions in higher education where homophobia, heterosexism, sexism, racism - all of those things are still okay.

[about coach Rene Portland's threat] It was the end of my sophomore year. I was called into the office on a Sunday. She said, "I want you to know, if your name is involved in any homosexual activities, I will take away your scholarship, kick you off the team, and make transferring impossible.

Herself (Gulas, Corinne):
I was called into the office, being blamed for lots of stuff I had no control over, being told I belonged in a straight-jacket, and had mental issues. And lots of psychological abuse. It was so intimidating and so overwhelming that I truly just kept my mouth shut.
