When criminals know how many hostage each of them needs to control they tend to feel strangely secure. Their desire to keep the situation under control and to have a clear perspective of the circumstance, is at work in their subconscious. If they have 1 or 2 extra hostage to manage, it makes them feel very uncomfortable.

Capt. Maiko Tohno:
They tend to imagine, the extra hostage might attack them and not their company. Each somehow thinks he'll be the victim.
