In 1969 an estimated 500 million people watched as the first man stepped out of the Apollo lander and onto the surface of the moon. / The feat was the culmination of a space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. / A space race that pushed human beings to the VERY LIMITS OF OUR SCIENTIFIC PROWESS. / The new test of our exploratory mettle will be a manned mission to MARS. / The only problem is / We just aren't that good at stuff anymore.
