Marshal Jack Carter:

Jim Taggart:
[with sudden sadness] put me through.

[pauses, laughs a little] It's not "just a dog", Marshal.

Jim Taggart:
[nearly whispering] It's the devil himself.

[they exchange looks, and Taggart walks off]

Marshal Jack Carter:
[to himself] Oh, yeah. He's stable.
