Speed Racer:
[narrating] The story really begins a year ago, when I was driving in the Alpine Race against teams from all over the world. It was a gruelling race over treacherous mountain trails, and because of their skill and unique cars my closest competitors were members of the Car Acrobatic Team. I took advantage of every fair opportunity to pull into the lead. It was dangerous on that ice. Seeing the Car Acrobatic Team in action was an unforgettable sight, but Racer X warned me about them...

Racer X:
Don't race against them! To win, they'll stop at nothing!

Speed Racer:
Many racers were knocked out of the race and Racer X and I barely managed to cross the finish line. The Car Acrobatic Team suffered heavy losses and it was then that their leader vowed vengeance...

Captain Terror:
You have beaten us, Speed Racer, but I solemnly swear you will pay for our defeat! We shall meet again someday and when we do, we shall not only defeat you but you will be destroyed!
