How do you expect to learn anything chasing after accident witnesses? We ought to go after this guy. We'd catch real headlines if we caught him.

Mike Hammer:
Junie, can't you do something about fat boy here? Now, he's a character. Now look at him - nice chubby little fellow, comparatively handsome... got a lovely wife, pleasant place to live and he wants to be a detective.

Sam Earl:
I gonna be, too - as good as you are.

Mike Hammer:
You want to be like me, huh? Do you know what it takes to be a successful private detective? You got to eat it and sleep it and drink it twenty-four hours a day. You hate and you hate it in return. Now you finish night law school and then if you still want to be a detective, you join the police department or the FBI.
