The Bowery - to the man who writes the encyclopedia, it's an avenue in New York City extending from Chatham Square to the junction of Third and Fourth Avenues at Cooper Square. When I go there, I don't see anything but a land of pawnshops and flophouses, peopled by derelicts and missionaries and God bless the latter.
