The story Alice Burns told Sergeant Preston made him realize he was confronted with his strangest case. A year after Dennis was born, Alice's husband Tim Burke had left her. When she later read in the newspaper that Tim Burke had been sent to prison for armed robbery, she changed her name to Burns and moved to the Yukon. Now, after all these years, a cruel trick of fate had brought Burke back into their lives.
