[speaking about her father] He died when he was pretty much my age - he was 52 when he died - and so the thought of him...

Emma Thompson:
[to the audience, motioning as if smoking a cigarette] it was the fags what got him...

Craig Ferguson:
[chuckling, explaining to the audience] Yeah, yeah, but - we, we call them cigarettes here, but we know what you mean.

Emma Thompson:
I started smoking, you know...

[as laughter rolls through the audience, she waves her hands and rolls her eyes in good-natured embarrassment]

Craig Ferguson:
[laughingly trying to calm the audience] Relax... relax...

Craig Ferguson:
[in mock horror, posing as a fey outraged viewer] *What* did she say?

Emma Thompson:
[rolling her eyes] He went - he went...

Craig Ferguson:
It's all right...

Emma Thompson:
[in a mock melodramatic "recollection" of her father's death] He went to the Isle of Wight... they *stoned* him...

[laughter again fills the audience]
