In rare instances, the issuing of a traffic ticket has results that are unexpected, even by veteran officers of the Highway Patrol. On May 25th, Patrolman Blackwell issued a citation to a motorist. The offense was minor, and the driver cooperated - a routine incident. Yet it was to provide a clue in a brutal murder. Two days later, boys hunting for frogs discovered the body of a man lying in the weeds at the edge of a pond. The victim had been shot through the back of the head. There was no identification on the body. Later that day, Records Division reported to Dan Mathews.
