The Hunter

Bart Adams:
If you shoot, you'll put a hole through this valuable painting.

Art Dealer:
Drop the picture.

Bart Adams:
If you shoot now, you'll ruin a valuable customer.

[referring to a group of lost paintings]

Art Dealer:
I doubt if they will ever see them again - or the woman who painted them.

Bart Adams:
Oh, there are ways of getting in and out of Czechoslovakia

Art Dealer:
For friends of Lucenic, there is only the underground - six feet underground.

Voralov:
Comrade museum director - custodian of the people's art, huh? I'll show you the people's art - scribbed and scrawled all over the building: F for Freedom! Wherever you turn in this miserable city, some miserable coward has crawled out in the middle of the night with a piece of chalk and bravely sabotaged a brick wall with the letter "F".

Museum Director:
But comrade...

Voralov:
Freedom is it, huh? In my district, "F" is going to stand for "Fear".

Voralov:
So, Comrade Museum Director, the inside of your walls are as subversive as the outside.

Museum Director:
Let me explain...

Voralov:
Magda Lucenic is a traitor to the socialist state. She is an outlaw and so are her paintings. This daub of colored paint is a studied insult to the Soviet motherland.

Museum Director:
But it is entirely non-political!

Voralov:
Non-political, huh? Now why don't you hang an American flag next to it? Or better still, if I ever find Lucenic, I'll hang her next to it!

Bart Adams:
[to Magda] I'm going to get you out of Czechoslovakia.

Zinner:
Getting out of the People's Paradise is not so easy as getting in.

Magda Lucenec:
It's really quite comfortable here. I even have my paints and canvas... except I cannot paint. All the colors are gone from here - it's just different shades of gray. That's what comes from living in a tomb. The rest of my country is a cage; the bars are different shades of red. If-If I could just escape maybe those other colors would come back.

Bart Adams:
Honey, there's a place at the end of the rainbow where even the toothpaste is green.

Bart Adams:
[to Zinner] Don't ever think of their ignorance as stupidity. You lost your country that way.

Voralov:
Tomorrow, these walls will have ears - mine!

[referring to Zinner]

Magda Lucenec:
He locked us in so we could escape. He wouldn't even let us help him.

[grips Zinner's pistol]

Magda Lucenec:
This was his. It's empty. My work can wait; it's his work that must be finished.

Bart Adams:
Funny thing - I think I can find a place where we can get this loaded.

[first lines]

Narrator:
Six o'clock in the morning in the West German city of Munich. Now that's ordinarily bedtime for Bartholomew Adams, international night owl. So when he decides to go shopping at that hour for oil paintings - and before the shop is open - it's not because he's a connoisseur of art, but because he is also, secretly, The Hunter... and The Hunter hunts at strange hours and in odd places for the enemies of freedom. Yes, there are two Bart Adams - and one of them had better be insured.
